6. Filament assembly and structural studies of intermediate filament like protein, FilP, in Streptomyces coelicolor
Sammanfattning : The cytoskeleton, known as intracellular connected filaments, has a prominent role in cellular behavior, motility, and stability. The following three major types of polymers have been characterized as cytoskeleton in eukaryotes: microtubules that are 25 nm in diameter, actin filaments that are 7 nm in diameter, and intermediate filaments (IF) that are 10 nm in diameter. 7. Cell signaling by Rho and Miro GTPases : Studies of Rho GTPases in Cytoskeletal Reorganizations and of Miro GTPases in Mitochondrial Dynamics
Sammanfattning : The Ras superfamily of GTPases embraces six major branches of proteins: the Ras, Rab, Ran, Arf, Rho and Miro subfamilies. The majority of GTPases function as binary switches that cycle between active GTP-bound and inactive GDP-bound states. This thesis will focus primarily on the biological functions of the Rho and Miro proteins. LÄS MER
8. Divisive structures : Two billions years of biofilament evolution
Sammanfattning : Our understanding of the functional and regulatory complexity that existed in the eukaryotic progenitor is poor, and investigations have been hindered by our nebulous understanding of where eukaryotes stem from. Recently discovered archaeal lineages with hitherto unseen homology to eukaryotic systems suggest archaea can further our understanding of the eukaryotic cell’s ancestry. LÄS MER
9. Clinical and laboratory studies on propofol
Sammanfattning : Patients undergoing major abdominal surgery were randomly given total intravenous anaesthesia based on propofol and fentanyl, anaesthesia based on propofol, fentanyl and nitrous oxide or anaesthesia based on isoflurane and fentanyl. Postoperative atelectasis demonstrated by computed tomography of the chest was found to a similar extent and a similar decrease in arterial oxygen pressure was seen in the groups. LÄS MER
10. From Cell Shape to Body Shape: Epithelial Morphogenesis in Drosophila melanogaster
Sammanfattning : Embryonic development is associated with extensive rearrangements of tissues. The driving force for these rearrangements is generated by a dynamic reorganization of the Actin cytoskeleton of individual cells. LÄS MER
