16. Cell-Specific Ca2+ Response in Pancreatic ß-cells
Sammanfattning : Pancreatic ß-cells are heterogeneous in their secretory responsiveness, glucose sensitivity and metabolic rate. A diminished and delayed first-phase insulin release is an early sign of failing ß-cells in diabetes. LÄS MER
17. Hair cell and organ of corti responses to normal and intense acoustic stimulation
Sammanfattning : The principal aims of the studies described in this thesis were to develop an in vitro model for studying acoustic overstimulation at the cellular level, to define the electrical and mechanical response characteristics of the perfused temporal bone preparation, and to investigate the effects of intense sound stimulation on the calcium levels of the hair cells in the intact hearing organ. In the in vitro model for acoustic overstimulation, isolated cochlear outer hair cells were subjected to a pressure jet emanating from a glass micropipette aimed at the cell body. LÄS MER
18. Translational studies of drug-induced tumor cell death
Sammanfattning : It is essential to understand the mechanisms of action of anticancer drugs in order to obtain good treatment results. I have in the present thesis studied clinically used anticancer agents as well as other agents that induce tumor cell death. LÄS MER
19. Collagen-binding integrin α2β1 activity in vivo and in vitro : Effects of platelet-derived growth factor-BB
Sammanfattning : The expression of integrins by two cell clones from a rat colon carcinoma was investigated. Cloned cells that gave rise to regressive tumors, but not cells that gave rise to progressive, lethal, tumors, adhered to interstitial collagens through the integrin α2β1, although both cell types expressed it. 20. Studies of laminin a2 chain deficient mice -muscle sparing, charaterization of Cib2 and defective spermatorgenesis
Sammanfattning : Mutations in the gene encoding laminin α2 chain, an extracellular matrix protein mainly expressed in the neuromuscular system, cause a severe form of muscular dystrophy, congenital muscular dystrophy type 1A (MDC1A). Laminin α2 chain is associated to the muscle fibers by two major receptors, where one of them, integrin α7β1, is diminished upon laminin α2 chain deficiency. LÄS MER
