21. Interleukin-6 Signaling Pathways in Human Vascular Endothelial Cells : Molecular Mechanisms and Associations to Atherosclerosis
Sammanfattning : Interleukin-6 is pleotropic cytokine produced by several types of cells including endothelial cells (ECs). IL-6 acts on target cells via two major signaling mechanisms known as classic signaling and trans-signaling. LÄS MER
22. In vitro wound healing characteristics of amelogenins
Sammanfattning : Wound healing involves the co-ordinated actions of several cell types, soluble cell mediators and extracellular matrix (ECM). This research project intended to investigate the role of certain ECM proteins in different processes during tissue repair by studying the interaction between dermal cells and ECM. LÄS MER
23. Commensal microbes, immune reactivity and childhood inflammatory bowel disease
Sammanfattning : Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is characterized by chronic and relapsing intestinal inflammation of unknown etiology, but immune activation by the commensal microbiota probably plays a major role. The two major categories of IBD are ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease. LÄS MER
24. Hematopoiesis in a Crustacean
Sammanfattning : Hemocytes (blood cells) play an important role in the immune response in invertebrates, and thus the regulation of hemocyte homeostasis (hematopoiesis) is essential for the host survival against pathogens. Astakine 1, a homologue to vertebrate prokineticins, was first identified in the freshwater crayfish Pacifastacus leniusculus as a cytokine, and was found to be necessary for new hemocyte synthesis and release in vivo, and also to induce spreading and proliferation of Hematopoietic tissue cells (Hpt cells, precursor of hemocytes) in vitro. 25. Metabolic effects of interleukin-6
Sammanfattning : The levels of the cytokine interleukin-6 (IL-6) in the circulation are positively correlated with indices of obesity and metabolic disturbances. Paradoxically, plasma IL-6 levels increase markedly during prolonged and strenuous exercise, mainly due to increased production and release from working skeletal muscle. LÄS MER
