1. Immune responses to lipopolysaccharide in relation to allergic disease : a TLR4 gene polymorphism and endotoxin exposure
Sammanfattning : Background: Allergic diseases have increased during the last decades, particularly in affluent countries, possibly due to a reduced and/or altered microbial exposure during infancy. Activation of the immune system by microbes early in life is probably required for accurate maturation of the immune system and tolerance development. LÄS MER
2. Genetics of Parkinson's disease - with focus on genes of relevance for inflammation and dopamine neruon development
Sammanfattning : Abstract GENETICS OF PARKINSON’S DISEASE - WITH FOCUS ON GENES OF RELEVANCE FOR INFLAMMATION AND DOPAMINE NEURON DEVELOPMENT Introduction: The risk to be affected by Parkinson’s disease (PD) is considered to be influenced by genetic factors. In some rare cases of familial PD, mutations in some specific genes are known to cause the disease, but in the more common sporadic form of PD the causes are probably environmental factors interacting with genetic vulnerability. 3. Metabolic effects of interleukin-6
Sammanfattning : The levels of the cytokine interleukin-6 (IL-6) in the circulation are positively correlated with indices of obesity and metabolic disturbances. Paradoxically, plasma IL-6 levels increase markedly during prolonged and strenuous exercise, mainly due to increased production and release from working skeletal muscle. LÄS MER
4. Inflammation in atherosclerosis
Sammanfattning : Consequences of atherosclerosis may result in a number of diseases of the cardiovascular system that represent serious health problems and major causes of morbidity and mortality worldwide. Although it is initially considered as disease of fibro-lipid and thrombus deposition in the arterial wall, it also involves an ongoing inflammatory response. LÄS MER
5. Functional analysis of the -1087 single nucleotide polymorphism in the IL-10 promoter region
Sammanfattning : Interleukin (IL) 10 is recognized as a pro-inflammatory cytokine that promotes B cell proliferation. The objectives of the present series of studies were to analyze (i) differences in transcription factor binding to the -1087 IL-10 gene polymorphism in B cells, (ii) the influence of the A to G nucleotide transition on IL-10 and Sp1 gene expression in B cells, (iii) differences in Sp1 expression in periodontitis lesions from GG and AA genotype subjects and (iv) epigenetic modifications around the -1087 site and their influence on IL-10 gene expression.
