  1. 11. The balance between sex and asex: evolutionary genetic studies of reproductive variation in Allium vineale

    Författare :Alf Ceplitis; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; ontogeny; growth animal ; Allium vineale; Development biology; evolution; sexual reproduction; reproductive systems; embryology; Utvecklingsbiologi; ontogeni; embryologi; Genetics; cytogenetics; Genetik; cytogenetik;

    Sammanfattning : Evolutionary theory predicts a disadvantage to sexual reproduction. This manifests itself either by the higher growth rate of asexual females in a dioecious species, or by the higher transmission rate of a gene conferring asexual female function to its carriers in a hermaphrodite species. 2. 12. Genetic Characterization of Bone and Soft Tissue Tumors

    Författare :Anna Dahlen; Avdelningen för klinisk genetik; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Clinical genetics; Klinisk genetik; cytogenetik; Genetik; cytogenetics; mesenchymal tumor; pericytoma; Genetics; chondroma; lipoma;

    Sammanfattning : Bone and soft tissue tumors (BSTT) constitute a heterogeneous group of neoplasms of mesenchymal and neuroectodermal origin. Although many BSTT are rare, it has become clear that BSTT are characterized by recurrent acquired chromosomal aberrations, and the general aim of this thesis have been to apply molecular genetic and molecular cytogenetic techniques to further characterize recurrent breakpoints and deletions, and to search for candidate target genes. 3. 13. Development of adenoviral vectors for monitoring telomerase activity in living cells

    Författare :Anna Edqvist; Neurokirurgi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; cytogenetics; Genetics; cancer; onkologi; Cytologi; cancerology; oncology; Cytology; GBM; HSC; adenovirus; hTERT; Genetik; cytogenetik;

    Sammanfattning : ABSTRACT Telomerase activity is a potential molecular marker for cancer and primitive cells in regenerative tissues. The most commonly used method to measure telomerase activity in cells is the telomerase reverse amplification protocol (TRAP) assay, where the protein extracts derived from homogenized cells are analysed. 4. 14. Cytogenetic studies of normal kidney tissue and renal cell carcinoma

    Författare :Peter Elfving; Malmö (Abrahamsson) Urologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cytology; Klinisk genetik; Clinical genetics; nonneoplastic kidney tissue; renal cell carcinoma; trisomy 7; Cytogenetics; FISH; oncology; cancerology; Cytologi; onkologi; cancer;

    Sammanfattning : In the present thesis normal kidney tissue and renal cell carcinoma (RCC) were studied by cytogenetic and fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) methods to investigate chromosomal aberrations. In the first study, 4 samples of nonneoplastic kidney tissue were cultured for cytogenetic analysis and trisomy 7 was found in all cases in 3-15% of the cells. LÄS MER

  5. 15. Molecular Genetic Studies of Ph-positive Leukemias and the BCR and ABL Genes

    Författare :Thoas Fioretos; Avdelningen för klinisk genetik; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; CRKL; CRK; ABL; BCR; acute lymphoid leukemia; chronic myeloid leukemia; Philadelphia chromosome; Molecular Genetics; Cytogenetics; IFN-alfa; Haematology; extracellular fluids; Hematologi; extracellulära vätskor;

    Sammanfattning : In the present thesis molecular genetic methods were used to address different biological and clinical aspects of Philadelphia (Ph) chromosome-positive leukemias and the BCR and ABL genes. In the first study, children with Ph-positive chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) were found to have essentially the same breakpoint locations in BCR as adults, a pattern which differs from the one seen in Ph-positive acute lymphoid leukemia (ALL).
