  1. 1. Role of respiratory supercomplexes : Electronic connection between complexes III and IV

    Författare :Agnes Moe; Peter Brzezinski; James A. Letts; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; electron transfer; cytochrome c oxidase; cytochrome bc1; respiratory supercomplex; bioenergetics; membrane protein; biokemi; Biochemistry;

    Sammanfattning : In the final step of cellular respiration, electrons are transferred through the respiratory chain to reduce molecular oxygen to water. The energy released in this chain is used to maintain a proton electrochemical gradient across the cell membrane, which is used, for example, by the ATP synthase to produce ATP. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Proton transfer in cytochrome c oxidase : how, when and why

    Författare :Andreas Namslauer; Colin A. Wright; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Biochemistry; Biokemi;

  3. 3. Heme A synthase from Bacillus subtilis and Aeropyrum pernix

    Författare :Anna Lewin; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; heme A synthesis; heme A; heme A synthase; CtaA; cCtaA; cytochrome a; Aeropyrum pernix; Bacillus subtilis;

    Sammanfattning : Respiration in animals, plants and many bacteria is dependent on heme A, which functions as a prosthetic group in a-type cytochromes (terminal energy-transducing oxidases in the electron transport chain that reduce molecular oxygen to water). Heme A synthase catalyses a chemically very demanding reaction, the conversion of one specific methyl side-group of heme O to a formyl group of heme A. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Molecular basis and structural determinants for the cellular localization of cytochrome P450 2E1

    Författare :Etienne P A Neve; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Cytochrome P450 2E1 (CYP2E1) is the alcohol inducible member of the P450 family and has a role in gluconeogenesis under fasting conditions. However, CYP2E1 is mainly of toxicological significance and metabolizes xenobiotics to their carcinogenic and toxic metabolites and generates active oxygen species that can cause lipid peroxidation and apoptosis, processes observed in alcoholic liver disease (ALD). 5. 5. Quinine metabolism in man : emphasis on the 3-hydroxylation as a biomarker reaction for the activity of CYP3A4

    Författare :Rajaa A Mirghani; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Quinine is one of the cinchona alkaloids and used in the treatment of severe forms of malaria. Formation of 3-hydroxyquinine is catalysed by cytochrome P-450 3A4 (CYP3A4), which is the enzyme involved in the metabolism of about 50% of all drugs in clinical use. LÄS MER
