  1. 1. Cyclic guanosine 3', 5'-monophosphate : studies on synthesis and efflux from hepatocytes, liver slices and cerebellar slices and on serotonin-mediated cGMP synthesis in human platelets

    Författare :Marie-Louise Tjörnhammar; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : The present study established the existence of a carrier mediated transport of 3'5' cGMP from rat liver slices, hepatocytes and cerebellar slices in which the cellular levels of 3'5' cGMP were elevated by application of appropriate stimuli and inhibitors of the 3'5' cyclic nucleotide phosphodiesterase. The carrier is specific for 3'5' cGMP as opposed to 3'5' cAMP. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Nerve-induced release of nitric oxide in gastrointestinal and erectile tissue

    Författare :Katarina Hallén; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Autonomic neurotransmission; cyclic guanosine monophosphate; guinea pig colon; neuronal nitric oxide synthase; nitric oxide; nitrite; phosphodiesterase; rabbit corpus cavernosum; smooth muscle; soluble guanylate cyclase;

    Sammanfattning : Nitric oxide (NO) is an important messenger of the autonomic nervous system, innervating the gastrointestinal and urogenital tracts among many other tissues. The aim of the present thesis was to study the nitrergic neurotransmission in enteric and erectile tissue with special emphasis on modulation of nitrergic neurotransmission by the soluble guanylate cyclase (sGC)/cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP)-pathway. 3. 3. Endothelium-derived Vasoactive Factors and Leukocyte-derived Inflammatory Mediators. Studies in subjects with or at risk for vascular disease

    Författare :Anwaar M Ibrahim; Malmö Institutionen för kliniska vetenskaper; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Prostacyclin.; Postmenopausal hormone replacement therapy; Nitric oxide; Endothelin; Diabetes mellitus; Cytokines; Cholesterol; Atherosclerosis; Cerebral ischemia; Cardiovascular system; Kardiovaskulära systemet;

    Sammanfattning : This study was undertaken to evaluate relationships between endothelial function (assessed as mediators of endothelium-derived vasoactive factors such as nitric oxide [NO], prostacyclin [PGI2] and endothelin [ET-1] ), and risk factors for atherosclerosis, as well as to study possible relationships between endothelial function and leukocyte activation (indicated by measurements of leukocyte-derived inflammatory mediators) in subjects with or at risk for atherosclerosis. In subjects with asymptomatic atherosclerosis we found inverse relationships between cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP) in platelets (mediator of NO activity) and both serum total cholesterol and plasma ET-1 suggesting that NO-mediated vasodilation may be impaired in hypercholesterolemia and that maintenance of vascular tone is achieved by a balance between NO and ET-1. 4. 4. The role of red blood cells in cardiac and endothelial dysfunction in cardiometabolic disease

    Författare :Tong Jiao; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Background: Cardiometabolic disease, which includes the combination of cardiovascular disease, especially coronary artery disease and type 2 diabetes (T2D), is a major health problem and cause of mortality worldwide. ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) occurs when coronary arteries are occluded and is regarded as a life-threatening disorder. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Health hazards associated with dissemination of bacterial strains in waste water recycling

    Författare :Mokhlasur Rahman; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Treated waste effluents with low levels of chemical and microbiological contents are used for domestic, industrial, agricultural and aquacultural purposes worldwide, and it is estimated that one tenth or more of the world’s population consume food produced through irrigation with wastewater. Treated hospital waste effluents may contain pathogenic and drug resistant bacteria, which constitutes the most dangerous single risk factor for dissemination of pathogenic and drug resistant organisms to the environment.
