  1. 1. Regulation of bacterial adaptive behavior by the second messenger cyclic-di-GMP and host components

    Författare :Soazig Le Guyon; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : To optimize survival and growth, bacteria have evolved adaptive behaviors that respond to relevant environmental signals. A switch from the motile to the sessile lifestyle is probably the most ancient behavioral transition of microorganisms. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Characterization of c-di-GMP signaling in Salmonella typhimurium

    Författare :Roger Simm; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Signal transduction via cyclic nucleotides is a general mechanism utilized by cells from all kingdoms of life. Identification of cyclic diguanosine monophosphate (c-di-GMP) as an allosteric activator of the cellulose synthase in Gluconacetobacter xylinus 20 years ago, paved the way for the discovery of a novel general signalling system which is unique to bacteria. 3. 3. Diverse cyclic dinucleotide signals regulate Escherichia coli lifestyle transition

    Författare :Fengyang Li; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Bacteria have the ability to change their lifestyle to adapt to various environmental conditions. Cyclic dinucleotides (cDNs) are ubiquitous second messengers that can regulate fundamental lifestyle switches, such as motility versus sessility and acute versus chronic virulence, in bacteria. 4. 4. Role of c-di-GMP signalling in bacterial-host interactions

    Författare :Agaristi Lamprokostopoulou; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Bacteria have various ways to sense environmental signals and to adapt their behavior and physiology through different signaling systems. Secondary messenger signaling, amplified by enzymatic activity, rapidly transmits a signal in the cell, resulting in allosteric functional control. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Nitric oxide (NO) and carbon monoxide (CO): A novel class of messenger molecules regulating insulin and glucagon secretion

    Författare :Ragnar Henningsson; Institutionen för experimentell medicinsk vetenskap; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; carbon monoxide CO ; nitric oxide NO ; Nitric oxide synthase NOS ; Insulin and glucagon secretion; cyclic nucleotides; Endocrinology; secreting systems; diabetology; Endokrinologi; sekretion; diabetologi; Heme oxygenase HO ;

    Sammanfattning : During the last decade it has been shown that nitric oxide (NO) and carbon monoxide (CO) are produced in our own body, and that they constitute a novel class of messenger molecules. In 1992 a constitutive NO-producing NO-synthase (cNOS) was found in the islets of Langerhans, and in 1997 we could show for the first time that the islets also contained a CO-producing constitutive heme oxygenase (HO-2).
