  1. 6. Cyanobacterial Nitrogen Fixation in the Baltic Sea : With focus on Aphanizomenon sp

    Författare :Jennie B. Svedén; Jakob Walve; Helle Ploug; Angela Wulff; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; cyanobacteria; Baltic Sea; nitrogen fixation; Aphanizomenon sp.; dissolved nitrogen; particulate nitrogen; sedimentation; Marine Ecology; marin ekologi;

    Sammanfattning : Cyanobacteria are widely distributed in marine, freshwater and terrestrial habitats. Some cyanobacterial genera can convert di-nitrogen gas (N2) to bioavailable ammonium, i.e. perform nitrogen (N) fixation, and are therefore of profound significance for N cycling. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Benthic-pelagic coupling in the northern Baltic Sea: the link between settling cyanobacterial blooms and macrobenthos

    Författare :Agnes M.L. Karlson; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Terrestrial; freshwater and marine ecology; Terrestisk; limnisk och marin ekologi;

  3. 8. Trophic ecology of meiofauna : Response to sedimentation of phytoplankton blooms in the Baltic Sea

    Författare :Francisco J.A. Nascimento; Ragnar Elmgren; Richard Warwick; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Meiofauna; Cyanobacteria; competition; facilitation; ecosystems processes; Marine ecology; Marin ekologi; Marine Ecology; marin ekologi;

    Sammanfattning : Marine soft sediments are the second largest habitat on Earth. How animal communities in this habitat are structured is a central issue in marine ecology. Food is an important limiting factor for many benthic populations, and settling organic matter from phytoplankton blooms is of vital importance to them. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Marine nitrogen fixation : Cyanobacterial nitrogen fixation and the fate of new nitrogen in the Baltic Sea

    Författare :Isabell Klawonn; Helle Ploug; Lasse Riemann; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; biogeochemistry; nitrogen cycling; nitrogen fixation; cyanobacteria; Baltic Sea; Marine Ecology; marin ekologi;

    Sammanfattning : Biogeochemical processes in the marine biosphere are important in global element cycling and greatly influence the gas composition of the Earth’s atmosphere. The nitrogen cycle is a key component of marine biogeochemical cycles. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Filamentous cyanobacteria in the Baltic Sea - spatiotemporal patterns and nitrogen fixation

    Författare :Lisa Almesjö; Ragnar Elmgren; Norbert Wasmund; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Aphanizomenon sp.; Nodularia spumigena; Baltic Sea; image analysis; spatial variability; nitrogen fixation; vertical migration; marin ekologi; Marine Ecology;

    Sammanfattning : Summer blooms of filamentous, diazotrophic cyanobacteria are typical of the Baltic Sea Proper, and are dominated by Aphanizomenon sp. and the toxic Nodularia spumigena. Although occurring every summer, the blooms vary greatly in timing and spatial distribution, making monitoring difficult and imprecise. LÄS MER
