  1. 1. Computational Analysis of Heat Transfer and Fluid Flow with Relevance for IC-Engine Cooling

    Författare :Sassan Etemad; Värmeöverföring; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Termisk teknik; termodynamik; turbulence models; Heat transfer; curved duct; secondary flow; IC-engine cooling; Gases; Thermal engineering; applied thermodynamics; Teknik; Technological sciences; plasma; Gaser; fluiddynamik; plasmas; fluid dynamics;

    Sammanfattning : Modern IC-engines produce more power per displaced volume and operate at higher combustion pressures and temperatures. In addition, engine structure materials such as aluminium and magnesium alloys, which are more sensitive to thermal loads, are more commonly used. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Computational studies of passive vortex generators for flow control

    Författare :Florian von Stillfried; Arne Johansson; Stefan Wallin; Sinisa Krajnovic; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; passive flow control; vortex generator; statistical modelling; turbulence; separation prevention; flat plate; diffuser; high-lift design; airfoil; Fluid mechanics; Strömningsmekanik;

    Sammanfattning : Many flow cases in fluid dynamics face undesirable flow separation due torising static pressure on wall boundaries. This occurs e.g. due to geometry as ina highly curved turbine inlet duct or e. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Lagrangian Particles in Turbulence and Complex Geometries

    Författare :Azad Noorani; Philipp Schlatter; Johan Revstedt; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Direct numerical simulation; wall turbulence; secondary motion; Teknisk mekanik; Engineering Mechanics;

    Sammanfattning : Wall-dominated turbulent dispersed multiphase flows occur in a variety of industrial, biological and environmental applications. The complex nature of the  arrier and the dispersed phase is elevated to a higher level introducing geometrical complexities such as curved walls. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Particle-laden Turbulent Wall-bounded Flows in Moderately Complex Geometries

    Författare :Azad Noorani; Philipp Schlatter; Helge Andersson; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; turbulent; complex geometry; particle; Teknisk mekanik; Engineering Mechanics;

    Sammanfattning : Wall-bounded turbulent dispersed multiphase flows occur in a variety of industrial, biological and environmental applications. The complex nature of the carrier and the particulate phase is elevated to a higher level when introducing geometrical complexities such as curved walls. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Simulation of individual cells in flow

    Författare :Lailai Zhu; Luca Brandt; Michael Graham; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Hydrodynamic interaction; swimming microorganisms; capsule; Stokes flow; finite element method; boundary integral method; general geometry Ewald method; spectral element method; viscoelastic fluid; cellular deformation; flow cytometry; cell sorting; microrheology; Teknisk mekanik; Engineering Mechanics;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis, simulations are performed to study the motion ofindividual cells in flow, focusing on the hydrodynamics of actively swimming cells likethe self-propelling microorganisms, and of passively advected objects like the red bloodcells. In particular, we develop numerical tools to address the locomotion ofmicroswimmers in viscoelastic fluids and complex geometries, as well as the motion ofdeformable capsules in micro-fluidic flows.
