1. Development and Applications of some Radioanalytical Procedures: Analysis of β- and α-Emitting Radionuclides Using Radiometric and ICP-MS Detection Methods
Sammanfattning : Analyses of radionuclides are important in environmental monitoring and in research. However, as in the analysis of many other species, interferences may be a problem. In a-spectrometric detection, 238Pu interferes with 241Am, owing to their similar decay energies. LÄS MER
2. Why Faster is Better : On Minor Actinide Transmutation in Hard Neutron
Sammanfattning : In this thesis, options for efficient transmutation of transuranium elements are discussed. The focus is on plutonium, americium and curium mainly because of their long-term contribution to the radiotoxicity of spent nuclear fuel. Two innovative helium-cooled core designs are proposed, dedicated to the transmutation of actinides. LÄS MER
3. Resonant Inelastic X-ray Scattering of Rare-Earth and Copper Systems
Sammanfattning : Rare earths and copper systems were studied using X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) and resonant inelastic X-ray scattering (RIXS). The use of monochromased synchrotron radiation and improved energy resolution for RIXS made possible to obtain valuable information on the electronic structure in 4f, 5f and 3d systems. LÄS MER
4. CHALMEX FS-13 investigations for process implementation
Sammanfattning : From successive neutron absorption by uranium in nuclear reactors, transuranic elements such as neptunium, plutonium, americium and curium are produced. These elements are the main reason for the long-lived, highly radiotoxic and heat-producing nature of spent nuclear fuel. LÄS MER
5. On the Diluent and Solvent Effects in Liquid-Liquid Extraction Systems based on Bis-triazine-bipyridine (BTBP) ligands
Sammanfattning : Used nuclear fuel is dangerous for mankind and her environment for a long time. If however, the minor actinides together with uranium and plutonium could be transmuted, i.e. transformed, into more shortlived or stable isotopes the volume of the waste could be significantly reduced together with a reduction in the radiotoxicity.
