21. Culture Confrontation in the Lower Congo : From the Old Congo Kingdom to the Congo Independent State with Special Reference to the Swedish Missionaries in the 1880's and 1890's
Sammanfattning : The culture confrontation remains the central theme throughout this book, with special emphasis given to points of conflict. My approach to each particular era has been guided by the question: What were the areas of incompatibility or conflict between African and European culture in the Lower Congo? By focusing my analysis on the dynamics of this confrontation, the point of contact between Congolese and Europeans, I have marked that the purpose of this study is not to present a characterization of Congolese or African culture as separate entities. 22. Gospel and Culture in the World Council of Churches and the Lausanne Movement with Particular Focus on the Period 1973-1996
Sammanfattning : This dissertation is an investigation of the discussion on gospel and culture in the World Council of Churches and the Lausanne movement with particular attention to the period 1973-1996. In order to understand the discussion, eight analytic questions were used: (1) Why did gospel and culture become an important issue? (2) How were the term “gospel” and (3) the term “culture” understood? What was the understanding of: (4) the interaction between gospel and culture, (5) historical gospel transposition processes, (6) cultural identity, (7) the role and approaches of missionaries, and (8) the perceived limits to syncretism? The study argues that the debate appeared as a result of decolonization and an assertion of cultural selfhood of churches in the South. LÄS MER

Sammanfattning : In this study, I investigate the authorial intentions of the early modern Jesuit Antonio Possevino (1533–1611) aiming to contribute to the understanding of his activities as an author, diplomatic administrator and missionary. I carry out analyses of his evaluative criteria of various topics and disciplines, such as history, geography, and politics. LÄS MER
24. The Mystery of Inequality : Essays on Culture, Development, and Distributions
Sammanfattning : Essay I (with Daniel Waldenström): We estimate trends in global earnings dispersion across occupational groups by constructing a new database that covers 68 developed and developing countries between 1970 and 2018. Our main finding is that global earnings inequality has fallen, primarily during the 2000s and 2010s, when the global Gini coefficient dropped by 15 points and the earnings share of the world’s poorest half doubled.
