    Sammanfattning : This dissertation is about sound in context. Since sensory processing is inherently multimodal, research in sound is necessarily multidisciplinary. The present work has been guided by principles of systematicity, ecological validity, complementarity of  methods, and integration of science and art. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Attention capture by sudden and unexpected changes : a multisensory perspective

    Författare :Erik Marsja; Jessica K. Ljungberg; Gregory Neely; Patrik Hansson; François Vachon; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Attention Capture; Tactile; Auditory; Visual; Crossmodal; Bimodal; Distraction; Short-term memory; Attention; Psychology; psykologi;

    Sammanfattning : The main focus for this thesis was cross-modal attention capture by sudden and unexpected sounds and vibrations, known as deviants, presented in a stream the same to-be-ignored stimulus. More specifically, the thesis takes a multisensory perspective and examines the possible similarities and differences in how deviant vibrations and sounds affect visual task performance (Study I), and whether the deviant and standard stimuli have to be presented within the same modality to capture attention away from visual tasks (Study II). 3. 3. World of faces, words and actions : Observations and neural linkages in early life

    Författare :Andrea Handl; Gustaf Gredebäck; Claes von Hofsten; Mikael Heimann; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Infant development; Eye-tracking; EEG; third-party interactions; crossmodal integration; gaze processing; speech processing; mu desynchronization; action perception; imitation; Psychology; Psykologi;

    Sammanfattning : From the start of their lives, infants and young children are surrounded by a tremendous amount of multimodal social information. One intriguing question in the study of early social cognition is how vital social information is detected and processed and how and when young infants begin to make sense of what they see and hear and learn to understand other people’s behavior. 4. 4. Effects of visual load on auditory processing

    Författare :Malina Szychowska; Stefan Wiens; Mats E. Nilsson; Maria Larsson; Inga Griskova-Bulanova; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; EEG; event-related potential; mismatch negativity; auditory steady-state response; envelope following response; perceptual load; visual load; task difficulty; crossmodal attention; early-filter theory; adaptive filtering model; Psychology; psykologi;

    Sammanfattning : In daily life, people need to be able to focus on a task while ignoring any task-irrelevant background noise. For example, people who work in an open-space office may have to work on a report while ignoring the background talk among co-workers. LÄS MER
