  1. 1. Musculoskeletal Biomechanics in Cross-country Skiing

    Författare :L. Joakim Holmberg; Anders Klarbring; Hans-Christer Holmberg; Anders Eriksson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Sammanfattning : Why copy the best athletes? When you finally learn their technique, they may have already moved on. Using muscluloskeletal biomechanics you might be able to add the "know-why" so that you can lead, instead of being left in the swells. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Computational Biomechanics in Cross-country Skiing

    Författare :Joakim L. Holmberg; Anders Klarbring; Ingrid Svensson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Computer simulation; Inverse dynamics; Musculoskeletal; Optimization; Simulation model; Sports; Computational Biomechanics; Cross‐country Skiing; Engineering mechanics; Teknisk mekanik;

    Sammanfattning : Traditionally, research on cross‐country skiing biomechanics is based mainly on experimental testing alone. Trying a different approach, this thesis explores the possibilities of using computational musculoskeletal biomechanics for cross‐country skiing. As far as the author knows, this has not been done before. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Roller skis' rolling resistance and grip characteristics : influences on physiological and performance measures in cross-country skiers

    Författare :Mats Ainegren; Peter Carlsson; Marko Laaksonen; Mittuniversitetet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Adjustable grip; blood lactate; centre of pressure; cycle length; cycle rate; economy; efficiency; friction coefficient; heart rate; normal force; OBLA; oxygen uptake; power; ratcheted wheel; ratings of perceived exertion; roller skis; rolling resistance; tangential force; time to exhaustion;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to investigate roller ski characteristics; classical and freestyle roller skis’ rolling resistance coefficients (μR) and classical style roller skis’ static friction coefficients (μS), and to study the influence of different μR and μS on cross-country skiers’ performance and both physiological and biomechanical indices. The aim was also to study differences in skiing economy and efficiency between recreational skiers, female and male junior and senior elite cross-country skiers. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Essays on Educational Choice and Intergenerational Mobility

    Författare :Martin Nybom; Anders Björklund; Markus Jäntti; Mikael Lindahl; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; educational choice; treatment effect heterogeneity; returns to college; noncognitive ability; intergenerational income mobility; life-cycle bias; time trends; cross-country differences; Economics; nationalekonomi;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis consists of four self-contained essays. The first essay concerns educational choice and the returns to college in Sweden. I apply a recently introduced econometric framework that allows for self selection and treatment effect heterogeneity. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Numerical optimization of pacing strategies in locomotive endurance sports

    Författare :David Sundström; Mats Tinnsten; Peter Carlsson; Mikael Bäckström; Erik Bruun Simonsen; Mittuniversitetet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Pacing strategy; optimization; numerical simulation; equations of motion; method of moving asymptotes; cross-country skiing; cycling; Farthållningsstrategi; optimering; numerisk simulering; rörelseekvationer; method of moving asymptotes; längdskidåkning; cykling;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis is devoted to the optimization of pacing strategies in two locomotive endurance sports; cross-country skiing and road cycling. It has been established that constant pace and variable power distributions are optimal if purely mechanical aspects of locomotion are considered in these sports. LÄS MER
