11. Defining RCE1 and ICMT as Therapeutic Targets in K-RAS-induced Cancer
Sammanfattning : CAAX proteins, such as the RAS and RHO proteins, are recognized by a specific CAAX motif at the carboxyl terminus, which undergoes posttranslational modifications. First, a lipid group is attached to the cysteine (the “C”) of the CAAX motif by farnesyltransferase (FTase) or geranylgeranyltransferase-I (GGTase-I); second, the –AAX are removed by RAS converting enzyme 1 (RCE1); and third, the cysteine is methylated by isoprenylcysteine carboxyl methyltransferase (ICMT). 12. Lymphatic Vascular Morphogenesis : From Progenitors to Functional Vessels
Sammanfattning : The lymphatic vasculature is an important part of the circulatory system and crucial for normal functioning and maintenance of tissues. Yet, our understanding of the processes underlying lymphatic development and homeostasis are surprisingly limited. LÄS MER
13. Hox transcription factors in hematopoiesis
Sammanfattning : Hematopoiesis is a lifelong, dynamic process in which a small number of pluripotent hematopoietic stem cells (HSC) residing in the bone marrow (BM) give rise to billions of mature blood cells of both myeloid and lymphoid origin each day. This enormous capacity of HSC has been utilized in BM transplantations for 4 decades and is also very important for future gene therapy. LÄS MER
14. Peripheral Regulation of Pain and Itch
Sammanfattning : Pain and itch are diverse sensory modalities, transmitted by the somatosensory nervous system. Stimuli such as heat, cold, mechanical pain and itch can be transmitted by different neuronal populations, which show considerable overlap with regards to sensory activation. LÄS MER
15. The Importance of Isoprenylation and Nf1 Deficiency in K-RAS-induced Cancer
Sammanfattning : The RAS and RHO family proteins contribute to tumorigenesis and metastasis and belong to a family of so called CAAX proteins. The membrane targeting and proper function of CAAX proteins are dependent on posttranslational isoprenylation by farnesyltransferase (FTase) or geranylgeranyltransferase type I (GGTase-I). LÄS MER
