Sammanfattning : Novel uses of wheat gluten (WG) proteins, obtained e.g. as a coproduct from bio-ethanol production, are presented in this thesis. A flame-retardant foam was prepared via in-situ polymerization of hydrolyzed tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS) in a denatured WG matrix (Paper I). LÄS MER
Sammanfattning : A thickness design module for flexible pavements, based on the HMA fracture mechanics framework, has been developed in order to design against premature failure caused by cracking. The HMA fracture mechanics based design module has been evaluated by designing typical Swedish pavements under typical Swedish climate and loading conditions and comparing the results with a reference design framework. Sammanfattning : Composite mineral–organic materials and in particular cement-organic materials are increasingly used in today’s construction applications and civil engineering projects. Polymer-modified render is a material that possesses several properties superior to conventional renders, such as better workability, crack resistance, adhesion to substrate and flexural strength. Sammanfattning : Hard coating’s thermal stability is essential due to the high temperature environment of high-speed cutting applications, while the phase and microstructure evolution induced by exposing the coating to high temperature affects the mechanical properties. In this thesis, the mechanical stability of arc-evaporated, hard, transition metal nitride coatings annealed at high temperature is analyzed and related to the phase and microstructure evolution. Sammanfattning : Today, the energy used for the heating and cooling of offices, shopping centres, schools, residential areas, andother buildings is as large as 50% of the total energy consumption in the world. The climate change, globalwarming, and environmental issues have forced high requirements for energy efficiency and clean energyproduction in buildings. LÄS MER
