  1. 16. Self-rated Health with special reference to Prevalence, Determinants and Consequences

    Författare :Christina Halford; Kurt Svärdsudd; Bengt Arnetz; Lisa Ekselius; Kristina Sundquist; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Self-rated health; determinants; consequences; Public health science; Folkhälsovetenskap; Social Medicine; Socialmedicin;

    Sammanfattning : Objectives: The overall aim was to investigate determinants and consequences of global non-comparative self-ratings of health (SRH). Concerning determinants, the aim was more specifically to investigate the association between age, year of investigation, stress-theory based psychobiological variables, and SRH. LÄS MER

  2. 17. Reconstruction of Past European Land Cover Based on Fossil Pollen Data : Gaussian Markov Random Field Models for Compositional Data

    Författare :Behnaz Pirzamanbein; Matematisk statistik; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Spatial Statistics; Adaptive Markov Chain Monte Carlo; Dirichlet Observation; Confidence Region; Palaeoecology; Past Human Land Use; Stochastic Partial Differential Equation;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis is to develop statistical models to reconstruct past land cover composition and human land use based on fossil pollen records over Europe for different time periods over the past 6000 years. Accurate maps of past land cover and human land use are needed when studying the interaction between climate and land surface, and the effects of human land use on past climate. LÄS MER

  3. 18. Essays in Empirical Labour Economics : Family Background, Gender and Earnings

    Författare :Lalaina Hirvonen; Anders Björklund; Tor Eriksson; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Intergenerational mobility; Assortative mating; Nonlinearity; Female labour force participation; Sex-mix composition; Cognitive and non-cognitive abilities; Education; Economics; Nationalekonomi; Economics; nationalekonomi;

    Sammanfattning : All three essays in this thesis are concerned with the interrelation of family, gender and labour market outcomes. The first paper investigates family earnings mobility between parents and sons, and parents and daughters, highlighting the role of assortative mating. The results suggest that daughters are more mobile than sons. LÄS MER

  4. 19. Statistical Methods for Taxon Classification and Bird Migration Phenology

    Författare :Måns Karlsson; Ola Hössjer; Jonas Knape; Benjamin Bolker; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Classification; quantile regression; phenology; statistical ornithology; L-functionals; set-valued classification; species identification; statistical ecology; multispecies modelling; matematisk statistik; Mathematical Statistics;

    Sammanfattning : The connection between ecology and statistics is deep. Methodological advancement in statistics open up new possibilities to understand the distribution of life on earth, and research questions in ecology cause new statistical methods to be developed. LÄS MER

  5. 20. Causal inference and case-control studies with applications related to childhood diabetes

    Författare :Emma Persson; Ingeborg Waernbaum; Xavier de Luna; Gisela Dahlquist; Stijn Vansteelandt; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; covariate selection; design-weighted estimation; marginal effect; matching; register study; treatment effect; type 1 diabetes mellitus; Statistics; statistik;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis contributes to the research area of causal inference, where estimation of the effect of a treatment on an outcome of interest is the main objective. Some aspects of the estimation of average causal effects in observational studies in general, and case-control studies in particular, are explored. LÄS MER
