  1. 1. On the Growth of Bone through Stress Driven Diffusion and Bone Generation Processes

    Författare :Gustav Lindberg; Hållfasthetslära; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; bone growth; Osteogenesis; Diffusion in bone; stress enhanced diffusion; Ginzburg-Landau; phase-field; diffusion experiment; Conductivity; Kalman filter; finite element method; Fourier series; Fick’s law; Osteology;

    Sammanfattning : In order to prevent or modify bone degeneration due to rest or due to diseases such as osteopenia and osteoporosis, the modeling and remodeling of bone tissue must be better understood. In this thesis it is assumed that the primary condition leading to bone growth is a change of the chemical environment caused by transport of matter resulting from stress driven diffusion. LÄS MER

  2. 2. On Mesoscale Modelling of Coupled Chloride-Moisture Transport in Concrete

    Författare :Filip Nilenius; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; coupled diffusion; concrete; moisture; mesoscale; chloride ions.; Multiscale modelling; computational homogenization;

    Sammanfattning : The service life behaviour of concrete structures is highly influenced by the ingress of chloride ions. At sufficiently high concentrations, chloride ions can initiate corrosion of embedded reinforcement bars, which may substantially reduce the structure's bearing capacity and ultimately lead to structural collapse. 3. 3. Hindered diffusion of nanoparticles

    Författare :Ananda Subramani Kannan; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Brownian motion; Hydrodynamic interactions; Multiphase DNS; Mobility; Langevin-immersed boundary method; Colloids; Aerosols; Nanoscale and Rarefied gas.;

    Sammanfattning : Brownian theory provides us with a powerful tool which can be used to delve into a microscopic world of molecules, cells and nanoparticles, that was originally presumed to be beyond our reach. Consequently, modeling the inherent dynamics of a system through a Brownian transport equation is of relevance to several real-word problems that involve nanoparticles including, the transport and mitigation of particulate matter (PM) generated though fossil fuel combustion and nanocarrier mediated drug delivery. Författare :Björn Johannesson; Göran Fagerlund; Avdelningen för Byggnadsmaterial; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Durability; Sorption; Capillary suction; Diffusion; Convection; Concrete; Byggnadsteknik; Mixture Theory; Building construction; Byggteknik; Civil engineering; Durability; Sorption; Capillary suction; Diffusion; Convection; Concrete; Byggnadsteknik; Mixture Theory; Building construction;

    Sammanfattning : The work presented in this thesis is mainly focused on transport processes involved in service life predictions of concrete. Two papers and three reports deal with ion transport in pore solution of concrete. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Meso-scale modelling of composites and semi-crystalline polymers

    Författare :Fritjof Nilsson; Mikael Hedenqvist; Ulf Gedde; Hans Ågren; Göran Grimvall; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; semi-crystalline polymers; simulations; diffusion; electrostatics; Materials science; Teknisk materialvetenskap; Applied mathematics; Tillämpad matematik; Polymer chemistry; Polymerkemi;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis covers the first few steps of a multi-scale computer simulation strategy for predicting physical properties of complex polymers like composites and semi-crystalline polymers. Meso-scale simulations of crystallization and solvent diffusion in polyethylene as well as simulations examining the geometrical impact on the effective permittivity of composites have been performed.
