16. Gluco- and mineralocorticoid receptor regulation of regional brain neurotrophism
Sammanfattning : Gluco- and mineralocorticoid hormones exert powerful actions on brain function and are important in the mediation of the stress response and the survival of hippocampal neurons. The aim of this thesis was to study the influence of glucocorticoid (GR)/mineralocorticoid receptor (MR) actions on brain neurotrophism including analyses of immediate early genes (IEGs) and of feedback responses on GR and/or MR. 17. Welfare indicators in laying hens
Sammanfattning : There is a growing concern regarding the welfare of laying hens worldwide and there are both ethical and economic reasons for improving their welfare. Although several different welfare indicators are used today, their ability to accurately reflect welfare status is sometimes questioned. LÄS MER
18. Mass spectrometry based analysis of endogenous sterols and hormones
Sammanfattning : Bioanalytical applications using supercritical fluid chromatography (SFC) as analytical technique are of increasing interest. In essence, bioanalysis involves measurement of bioactive or endogenous compounds in biological matrices. LÄS MER
19. Effects of palatable diets on appetite regulation, appetite peptides and neurogenesis
Sammanfattning : Obesity is increasing throughout the world at an epidemic rate, partly due to increased consumption of diets rich in fat and/or sugar. Ghrelin and leptin are hormones, originating from the periphery, involved in the regulation of food intake and of maintaining energy homeostasis. LÄS MER
20. Adrenal Bioactivation and Toxicity of 3-MeSO2-DDE, o,p´-DDD and DMBA Investigated in Tissue Slice Culture
Sammanfattning : I developed a precision-cut adrenal slice culture procedure to investigate cytochrome P450 (CYP) catalysed irreversible binding and adrenocorticolytic effects in human, rodent, and fish adrenal tissue, ex vivo. Autoradiography and radioluminography of exposed tissue slices showed that the potent adrenal toxicant 3-methylsulphonyl-2,2´-bis(4-chlorophenyl)-1,1´-dichloroethene (MeSO2-DDE) causes a selective metabolite binding in zona fasciculata (ZF), which is diminished by the CYP11B1 inhibitor metyrapone.
