  1. 1. Post-Ischemic Housing Conditions Influence On Gene Transcription And Translation After Permanent Focal Brain Ischemia In Rats

    Författare :Li-Ru Zhao; Sektion IV; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; rats; brain-derived neurotrophic factor; mRNA; nerve growth factor-induced gene A; corticosteroid receptors; in situ hybridization; Neurologi; neurophysiology; Neurology; neuropsychology; brain ischemia; enriched environment; neuropsykologi; neurofysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Enriched environment (EE) housing significantly ameliorates neurological deficits induced by cortical brain ischemia without changing infarction size, suggesting that EE-related functional benefits are associated with neuronal plasticity events in the remaining tissue. Brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), nerve growth factor-induced gene A (NGFI-A) and corticosteroid receptors (mineralocorticoid receptor, MR; glucocorticoid receptor, GR) have been demonstrated to be involved in brain plasticity. 2. 2. Corticosteroid receptors and Na,K-ATPase in the developing mouse cochlea

    Författare :Susan Erichsen; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :inner ear; stria vascularis; endolymph production; Na; K-ATPase; glucocorticoid receptor; mineralocorticoid receptor; knockout mouse; shaker-2; mix; immunohistochemistry;

    Sammanfattning : The senses of hearing and equilibrium are highly dependent on the fluid and electrolyte homeostasis in the inner ear. The characteristic intracellular-like ionic composition of endolymph fluid in relation to the surrounding perilymph creates the endocochlear potential (EP), which is a prerequisite for inner ear function. 3. 3. Regulation of cytokine receptors and activity markers in eosinophilic inflammatory processes

    Författare :Cecilia Hellman; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The eosinophil is an important effector cell in allergic inflammation and asthma and an increased number of eosinophils and eosinophil-derived cytotoxic proteins have been found in blood and airways of allergic patients. The life cycle of the eosinophil starts with differentiation of bone marrow progenitor cells. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Function of B2-adrenoceptors on alveolar macrophages

    Författare :Anita Zetterlund; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :A;

    Sammanfattning : B2-Agonists are very effective drugs for bronchodilatation, provide a rapid relief of symptoms in asthma, and are recommended as first line treatment, together with steroids. The relaxation of bronchial smooth muscles is a well-established effect of B-agonists, but their effects on inflammatory cells in the airways are less certain. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Pharmacological and Developmental Aspects on Neuronal Plasticity

    Författare :Lisa Bjartmar; Jan Marcusson; Elias Eriksson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : Neuronal plasticity means the ability of the brain, its cells and networks to adapt and adjust to new challenges, a process which is ongoing throughout life. The goal of this thesis was to gain better understanding of the molecular events that follow different types of stimulations of brain structures such as the hippocampus, a key region for cognitive functions with overriding control on the corticosteroid system.
