21. Comparative genome and proteome analysis of brain tissue from MK-801-treated rats
Sammanfattning : Symptoms of intoxication with non-competitive N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA)-receptor antagonists, closely mimic symptoms in patients with schizophrenia, and therefore [+]-5-methyl-10,11-dihydro-5H-dibenzo-[a,d]-cycloheptene-5,10-iminehydrogen-maleate (MK-801, dizocilpine) treated rodents are often used as a model for schizophrenia. To investigate if administration of the NMDA receptor antagonist MK-801 to rats would induce messenger ribonucleic acid (mRNA) or protein disturbances mimicking those observed in schizophrenic patients, complementary deoxyribonucleic acid (cDNA) microarrays and two-dimensional gel-electrophoresis in combination with mass spectrometry were used, respectively. 22. The Many Facets of bicoid Gradient Formation in Drosophila
Sammanfattning : In Drosophila, the Bicoid protein servers as paradigm as the first identified morphogen, whose concentration gradient provides the initial positional information in the anterior half of the embryo. There, it differentially activates segmentation genes, in particular the gap genes. LÄS MER
23. Overlapping Neural Substrates of Alcohol- and Anxiety-Related Behavior in the Rat
Sammanfattning : Alcohol use is a leading cause of death and disease worldwide. A large part of this disease burden is associated with alcohol use disorder (AUD), a diagnostic category characterized by excessive use in spite of negative consequences ("compulsive use"), a loss of control over intake, and choice of alcohol over natural rewards. 24. The conscious brain : Empirical investigations of the neural correlates of perceptual awareness
Sammanfattning : Although consciousness has been studied since ancient time, how the brain implements consciousness is still considered a great mystery by most. This thesis investigates the neural correlates of consciousness by measuring brain activity with functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) while specific contents of consciousness are defined and maintained in various experimental settings. 25. Proteomic Characterization of Induced Developmental Neurotoxicity
Sammanfattning : The developing brain goes through a number of developmental periods during which it displays an increased sensitivity to exogenous disturbances. On such period is the so called “Brain growth spurt” (BGS) which in humans takes place starting from the third trimester of pregnancy and throughout the first few years of life. LÄS MER
