  1. 11. Beyond AMPA and NMDA: Slow synaptic mGlu/TRPC currents : Implications for dendritic integration

    Författare :Marcus Petersson; Erik Fransén; Abdel El Manira; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; transient receptor potential; TRP; metabotropic glutamate receptor; mGlu1 5; dendritic integration; synaptic activation; temporal summation; low-frequency; entorhinal cortex; mathematical model; computational neuroscience; Computer science; Datavetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : In order to understand how the brain functions, under normal as well as pathological conditions, it is important to study the mechanisms underlying information integration. Depending on the nature of an input arriving at a synapse, different strategies may be used by the neuron to integrate and respond to the input. LÄS MER

  2. 12. Specification of Dorsal and Intermediate Telencephalic Character

    Författare :Matthew Marklund; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Molecular biology; telencephalon; forebrain; dorsoventral patterning; WNT; FGF; RA; retinoid-mediated signaling; development; specification; cortex; striatal; intermediate; Molekylärbiologi; Molecular biology; Molekylärbiologi; molekylärbiologi; Molecular Biology;

    Sammanfattning : The telencephalon is the most highly evolved region of the vertebrate central nervous system (CNS). The major structures of the telencephalon - the cortex and basal ganglia – derive from the dorsally positioned pallium and the ventrally positioned subpallium, respectively. LÄS MER

  3. 13. Anatomical, neurochemical and behavioural consequences of immunotoxin lesions of the basal forebrain cholinergic system

    Författare :Giampiero Leanza; Neurobiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; neural transplantation; reinnervation; axon growth; functional sparing; memory; learning; cortex; hippocampus; immunolesion; acetylcholine; basal forebrain; rat; Neurology; neuropsychology; neurophysiology; Neurologi; neuropsykologi; neurofysiologi; Physiology; Fysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : The cholinergic hypothesis of geriatric memory dysfunction suggests that the learning and memory deficits representing the cardinal symptoms of dementia in the aged and in patients suffering from Alzheimer's disease may be attributable to a decline in the function of the cholinergic projection systems of the basal forebrain. Although many studies have addressed the issue of a causal relationship between cholinergic hypofunction and cognitive disturbance, analyses of the functional role of the basal forebrain cholinergic neuronal systems in the brain have so far been hampered by the lack of an efficient and specific cholinergic neurotoxin. 4. 14. Infrared Neural Modulation: Photothermal Effects on Cortex Neurons Using Infrared Laser Heating

    Författare :Qingling Xia; Tobias Nyberg; Björn Granseth; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; neural modulation; infrared laser; in - vitro experiment; multi - electrode arrays MEA ; heating model; temperature; neural networks; infrared neural inhibition INI ; hyperexcitation;

    Sammanfattning : It would be of great value to have a precise and non-damaging neuromodulation technique in the field of basic neuroscience research and for clinical treatment of neurological diseases. Infrared neural modulation (INM) is a new modulation modality developed in the last decade, which uses pulsed or continues infrared (IR) light with a wavelength of 1200 to 2200 nm to directly alter neural signals. 5. 15. Model diseases for studies of autoimmunity

    Författare :Frida Dalin; Mohammad Alimohammadi; Olle Kämpe; Sophie Bensing; Lucia Mincheva-Nilsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The events triggering autoimmune diseases are to large extent unknown and model diseases are an important tool in studies aiming to elucidate molecular mechanisms in autoimmunity. Autoimmune Addison’s disease (AAD) is a rare disease characterized by autoimmune destruction of adrenal glands and most patients with AAD have autoantibodies against the enzyme 21‑hydroxylase in the adrenal cortex.
