16. The Impact of Birth Weight on Cardiovascular Risk Factors, Coronary Heart Disease and Prostate Cancer : Population-based Studies of Men Born in 1913 and Followed up Until Old Age
Sammanfattning : Objectives. To study whether birth weight (BW) was correlated to cardiovascular risk factors, coronary heart disease (CHD), cardiovascular disease (CVD), and prostate cancer (PCA) at adult ages, whether a possible relationship depended on mediating factors from birth time, hereditary circumstances, and adult life variables, and what importance possible associations might have for the rate of the complaint in the general population. 17. Impact of Risk Factors and Treatment in Coronary Heart Disease
Sammanfattning : Aims: The aim of the present study was to explore how risk factors and medication influence clinical presentation and mortality in coronary heart disease (CHD) and to explain how much of the decrease in CHD mortality in Sweden that could be attributed to medical and surgical treatments, and how much to changes in cardiovascular risk factors. Subjects and methods: We included 781 consecutive patients with a first acute myocardial infarction (AMI) during the period 1994 to 2002, to investigate trends in the use of lipid-lowering treatment, and changes in serum lipids. 18. Clinical Manifestations of Coronary Heart Disease and the Metabolic Syndrome : A Population-based Study in Middle-aged Men in Uppsala
Sammanfattning : During the past decades the knowledge concerning risk factors and pathophysiology of coronary heart disease (CHD) has substantially increased. However, despite identification of important risk factors CHD remains the leading cause of death in the western world. LÄS MER
19. Women, diabetes and coronary heart disease
Sammanfattning : Aims: The aim of the present study was to explore the reason why women with diabetes lose the female protection against MI, by investigating cardiovascular risk factors, markers of inflammation, early predictors for future development of diabetes and clinical manifestations in diabetes and coronary heart disease.Subjects and methods: Women with (n=29), and without diabetes (DM) (n=64), hospitalised with a smyocardial infarction ( MI) 1994-96, were compared with DM-women without MI (n=46) and healthy controls (n=125). 20. Long-term effects of adjuvant tamoxifen treatment on cardiovascular disease and cancer
Sammanfattning : The aims of this thesis were to investigate the long-term effects of adjuvant tamoxifen treatment on breast cancer recurrence and mortality, cardiovascular disease, and the incidence of secondary cancer.Between 1982 and 1992, postmenopausal patients with early stage breast cancer were included in a randomized clinical study of 2 or 5 years of postoperative tamoxifen therapy.
