  1. 6. Supernovae seen through gravitational telescopes

    Författare :Tanja Petrushevska; Rahman Amanullah; Ariel Goobar; Saurabh Jha; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; supernovae; strong gravitational lensing; star formation history; supernova rates; supernovor Gravitationslins; fysik; Physics;

    Sammanfattning : Galaxies, and clusters of galaxies, can act as gravitational lenses and magnify the light of objects behind them. The effect enables observations of very distant supernovae, that otherwise would be too faint to be detected by existing telescopes, and allows studies of the frequency and properties of these rare phenomena when the universe was young. 2. 7. Observations of distant supernovae and cosmological implications

    Författare :Rahman Amanullah; Ariel Goobar; Adam Riess; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; cosmological parameters; cosmology; astro physics; supernovae; type Ia supernova; Cosmology; Kosmologi;

    Sammanfattning : Type Ia supernovae can be used as distance indicators for probing the expansion history of the Universe. The method has proved to be an efficient tool in cosmology and played a decisive role in the discovery of a yet unknown energy form, dark energy, that drives the accelerated expansion of the Universe. 3. 8. The Frequency of Supernovae in the Early Universe

    Författare :Jens Melinder; Claes Fransson; Enrico Cappellaro; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; supernovae; supernova typing; supernova rates; photometric redshifts; Lyman Break Galaxies; Astronomy; Astronomi; Astronomy; astronomi;

    Sammanfattning : Supernovae are cosmic explosions of cataclysmic proportion that signify the death of a star. While being interesting phenomena in their own right, their brightness also make them excellent probes of the early universe. Depending on the type of the progenitor star and the origin of the explosion different subjects can be investigated. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Many-body Problems in the Theory of Stellar Collapse and Neutron Stars

    Författare :Emma Olsson; Bengt Gustafsson; Christopher Pethick; Bengt Friman; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Astronomy; neutron stars; core-collapse supernovae; response functions; Fermi liquids; nuclear matter; neutrino interactions; Astronomi; Astronomy and astrophysics; Astronomi och astrofysik;

    Sammanfattning : When modelling the collapse of massive stars leading to supernova explosions and the cooling of neutron stars, understanding the microphysical processes, such as the interaction of neutrinos within a dense medium are of vital importance. The interaction of neutrinos with nucleons (neutrons and protons) is altered by the presence of the medium, compared to the same process with free nucleons. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Exploring the potentials of next-generation, wavelength-shifting, optical sensors for IceCube

    Författare :Jakob Beise; Erin O'Sullivan; Christian Ohm; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Neutrino Physics; Astroparticle Physics; Supernovae; Wavelength Shifters; IceCube;

    Sammanfattning : The IceCube Neutrino Observatory has sensitivity to MeV electron antineutrinos from core-collapse supernovae through an excess of the detection rate over the background. Wavelength-shifting sensors have the potential to greatly increase photon collection making it a promising candidate for improving the measurement of the supernova neutrino light curve in IceCube-Gen2.
