  1. 1. Transport and chemical processing of trace gases in deep convective clouds

    Författare :Roman Bardakov; Annica M. L. Ekman; Mary C. Barth; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; gas transport; atmospheric chemistry; convective cloud; box model; new particle formation; atmosfärvetenskap och oceanografi; Atmospheric Sciences and Oceanography;

    Sammanfattning : Deep convective clouds can efficiently transport trace gases from the planetary boundary layer to the upper troposphere. Once there, some gases will contribute to new particle formation and growth, eventually producing aerosols that are large enough to influence cloud properties, the radiative budget of the Earth, and climate. 2. 2. Improved Cloud Parameterization in Global Climate Model : Aerosol effects and secondary ice production mechanisms

    Författare :Arti Jadav; MERGE: ModElling the Regional and Global Earth system; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Cloud; Coud parameterization; Primary ice mechanisms; Secondary ice production; Global climate model;

    Sammanfattning : The response of clouds to the changes in climate is uncertain, and the representation of the cloud-climate feedback is a key challenge in the global circulation models (GCM) for future climate projections. Factors contributing to this uncertainty include processes that involve particles of various sizes and phases, as well as the interactions between these particles and the surrounding atmosphere. 3. 3. Improving the understanding of cloud radiative heating

    Författare :Erik Johansson; Abhay Devasthale; Michael Tjernström; Annica M. L. Ekman; Robert Pincus; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; clouds; radiative effects; upper troposphere-lower stratosphere; atmospheric circulation; remote sensing; atmosfärvetenskap och oceanografi; Atmospheric Sciences and Oceanography;

    Sammanfattning : Clouds play an essential role in regulating Earth’s radiation budget by reflecting and absorbing energy at different spectra. As they interact with radiation, they can radiatively heat or cool the adjacent atmosphere and the surface. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Aerosol-cloud interaction from an observational and modeling perspective

    Författare :Anders Engström; Annica Ekman; Heiner Körnich; Philip Stier; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; atmosfärvetenskap och oceanografi; Atmospheric Sciences and Oceanography;

    Sammanfattning : Clouds may respond strongly to changes in the atmospheric aerosol population, and the response of clouds to an increased global aerosol burden could to some extent mask the warming caused by enhanced greenhouse gas concentrations. However, estimates of the impact of aerosols on cloud properties are associated with large uncertainties, both because of difficulties representing the aerosol-cloud interaction within models, and because of problems of unequivocally isolating the effect of aerosols on cloud properties in observational data. 5. 5. Secondary ice production : An empirical formulation and organization of mechanisms among simulated cloud-types

    Författare :Akash Deshmukh; MERGE: ModElling the Regional and Global Earth system; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; ice; collision; ice production; ice enhancement; secondary ice; sublimation; fragmentation;

    Sammanfattning : Clouds are essential elements within Earth's atmosphere, posing a challenge for cloud-resolving models in understanding the creation of new cloud ice particles from existing ice and liquid phases. Such ice initiation determines cloud microphysical and radiative properties, influencing cloud phase, precipitation and cloud extent/properties. LÄS MER
