  1. 1. Host control of intracellular bacterial infections

    Författare :Emma Eriksson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :Listeria monocytogenes; CD44; flagellin; Chlamydia pneumoniae; TLR; NOD; IFNalpha beta; IFN-gamma;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis various immune mechanisms regulating control of infections with the intracellular bacteria Listeria monocytogenes and Chlamydia pneumoniae have been studied. These bacteria infect macrophages in which they can successfully grow. However, macrophages are potent killers of intracellular bacteria. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Mechanisms of the intracellular survival of Francisella tularensis

    Författare :Linda Tancred; Anders Sjöstedt; Jean Celli; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Francisella tularensis; Igl; MglA; J774; IFN-γ; RNS; ROS; phagosome; Clinical bacteriology; Klinisk bakteriologi; mikrobiologi; Microbiology;

    Sammanfattning : Francisella tularensis is a gram-negative, highly virulent, intracellular bacterium which causes the zoonotic disease tularemia. The subspecies tularensis and holarctica are clinically important, and the former is the more virulent. The intracellular lifestyle of F. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Innate immunity to intracellular bacterial infections

    Författare :Christian Trumstedt; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Intracellular bacterial pathogens have developed mechanisms to enter and invade cells, to survive the immune response and to replicate inside the host. We studied the innate mechanisms that have evolved in the host to battle intracellular bacterial pathogens, such as the obligate intracellular Chlamydia pneumoniae and the facultative intracellular Listeria monocytogenes, which invade the respiratory and the gastrointestinal tracts in humans. 4. 4. Role of alveolar epithelial cells in macrophage responses against mycobacterial infections

    Författare :Olga Daniela Chuquimia Flores; Carmen Fernández; Diana Boraschi; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Lung; alveolar epithelial cells; macrophages; AEC-derived media; control of intracellular bacterial growth; mycobacterial infections; immunologi; Immunology;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis aimed to investigate the role of alveolar epithelial cells (AEC) on immune responses against mycobacterial infections, specifically, the role of AEC in modulating macrophage functions through the secretion of broad variety of factors.In paper I, we compared murine AEC with interstitial macrophages (PuM) in their ability to take up and control mycobacterial growth and their capacity as antigen-presenting cells. 5. 5. How precise is cyclic life? : Insights during a single molecule revolution of the bacterial cell cycle

    Författare :Mats Walldén; Johan Elf; Peter Graumann; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; E.coli; cell cycle; replication initiation; transcription factor; gene-regulation; single molecule microscopy; microfluidics; Biology with specialization in Molecular Biotechnology; Biologi med inriktning mot molekylär bioteknik;

    Sammanfattning : Bacterial cells reproduce by doubling in size and dividing. The molecular control systems which regulate the cell cycle must do so in a manner which maintains a similar cell size over many generations. A cell can under conditions of fast growth conclude cell cycles in shorter time than the time required to replicate its chromosome. LÄS MER
