  1. 1. Modulation of the calcium-force relationship in smooth muscle by polyamines and metabolic inhibition

    Författare :Karl Swärd; Cellulär biomekanik; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; metabolic inhibition; polyamines; excitation-contraction coupling; smooth muscle; intracellular calcium; Physiology; Fysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : The relationship between intracellular free calcium ([Ca2+]i) and force in smooth muscle was investigated in receptor-coupled permeabilized preparations and by fluorimetry of the calcium indicator Fura 2 in intact smooth muscle. The time integral of spontaneous [Ca2+]i transients in the intact rat portal vein was decreased by cyanide and, during tonic contraction, cyanide reduced force without changing [Ca2+]i implying metabolic sensitivity of both membrane excitation and [Ca2+]i - activation of the contractile proteins. 2. 2. Dynamics of Ca2 handling in vascular smooth muscle

    Författare :Karl Dreja; Malmö Institutionen för kliniska vetenskaper; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; smooth muscle; phenotypic modulation; caveolae; Physiology; confocal microscopy; calcium; Fysiologi;

    Sammanfattning : Intracellular Ca2+ is a key regulator of vascular contractility, and thereby of blood perfusion and pressure. Ca2+ signals are essential also for cell migration, proliferation and regulation of numerous enzymes. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Signal transduction and calcium sensitivity of smooth muscle contraction

    Författare :Johan Bonnevier; Institutionen för experimentell medicinsk vetenskap; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Fysiologi; Physiology; hypertrophy; CPI-17; MYPT1; myosin phosphatase; Rho kinase; PKC; smooth muscle; cGK;

    Sammanfattning : Smooth muscles are components of several physiologically important organs and often involved in disease. Smooth muscle contraction is regulated by variations in intracellular [Ca2+]; increased levels activate the myosin light chain kinase (MLCK) which phosphorylates myosin and initiates contraction. 4. 4. Intrafollicular pressure and biochemical mediators in ovulation

    Författare :Markus Matousek; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; ovulation; protein tyrosine kinase; ovulation; leukotriene B4; intrafollicular pressure; contractions and smooth muscle cell.;

    Sammanfattning : Ovulation is the process whereby the preovulatory follicle ruptures to enable a fertilisable ovum to escape from the interior of the ovary to the oviduct. During the ovulatory process, from he onset of the preovulatory LH-surge to the follicular rupture, marked biochemical and structural changes in follicles to enable it to rupture. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Ion channels and electrical activity in vascular smooth muscle: Effects of calcium store depletion, cholesterol and cholesterol-lowering drugs

    Författare :Andreas Bergdahl; Kärlfysiologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Fysiologi; Physiology; statins; endothelin; cholesterol; caveolae; smooth muscle; TRP; Ca2 channels; SOC;

    Sammanfattning : Smooth muscle cells (SMCs) in the vessel wall contract to regulate blood flow and pressure, a function essential for normal circulation through tissues. On the other hand, migration and proliferation of SMCs are important factors in vascular disease, such as atherosclerosis and restenosis following surgical dilatation. LÄS MER
