    Sammanfattning : Women´s emancipation created and was created by modernity. During the Swedish interwar period this process was depicted in contemporaneous novels written by and about women. These novels make up about three per cent of the fictional prose published at the time, but they still constitute a blind spot in Swedish literary history. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : This dissertation investigates the relationship between linguistic and stylistic innovation in nineteenth-century literature on the one hand and shifts in the dynamics of the economic sign system on the other. It draws on prior work on parallels between language and money and argues specifically that developments in the nineteenth-century novel can be understood in terms of the contemporaneous economic history, and that the two sign systems of language and money display structural similarities in this period.     Sammanfattning : Twenty years after Vassar College welcomed the first American female undergraduates in 1865, the experiences of women college students began to be fictionalized in so-called college stories. This thesis shows how higher education is presented in the novels, collections of short stories, and serialized stories for female readers published before the United States was involved in the First World War.
