  1. 6. Multiphase Contamination in Rock Fractures : Fluid Displacement and Interphase Mass Transfer

    Författare :Zhibing Yang; Auli Niemi; Fritjof Fagerlund; Tissa Illangasekare; Insa Neuweiler; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; multiphase flow; dissolution; mass transfer; invasion percolation; immiscible displacement; fractured media; groundwater contamination; non-aqueous phase liquid; curvature; Hydrology; Hydrologi;

    Sammanfattning : Multiphase flow and transport in fractured rock is of importance to many practical and engineering applications. In the field of groundwater hydrology an issue of significant environmental concern is the release of dense non-aqueous phase liquids (DNAPLs) which can cause long-term groundwater contamination in fractured aquifers. 2. 7. Analysis of quality characteristics of radiotherapeutic photon beams

    Författare :Bo Nilsson; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Photon therapy; lepton contamination; photon contamination; surface dose; perturbation effects;

    Sammanfattning : The lepton and photon contamination of high energy photon beams for radiation therapy has been investigated computationally and experimentally. The contaminating particles will effect the quality of the beam by increasing the surface dose, degrading the uniformity of the beam, broadening the penumbra, and increasing the energy imparted outside the useful beam. 3. 8. Ancient DNA as a Means to Investigate the European Neolithic

    Författare :Helena Malmström; Anders Göterström; Gunilla Holmlund; T Brown; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Molecular genetics; aDNA; contamination; authentication; mtDNA; Neolithisation; Genetik;

    Sammanfattning : The transition from a hunter-gatherer lifestyle to a farming lifestyle, i.e. the Neolithisation, is arguably the most important event in human prehistory. While the geography and dating of the Neolithisation is well known, the process is still under debate, especially if it occurred through diffusion of ideas or with migrating farmers. LÄS MER

  4. 9. Our Bones, who art contaminated : Glues, strontium isotopes, and mobility in early Swedish Christians

    Författare :Crista Adelle Wathen; Kerstin Lidén; Sven Isaksson; Christophe Snoeck; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; Strontium isotopes; contamination; conservation; glues; Christianity; mobility; early Christians; Sweden; Varnhem; Västerhus; bones; teeth; Scientific Archaeology; arkeologi med inriktning mot laborativ arkeologi;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis aims to build upon previous research into contamination and its effects on isotopes by focusing on the strontium isotopic ratio (87Sr/86Sr), which is used in mobility studies to study the movements of past humans and animals and to build past economic trading networks. Contamination is a broad topic, and in the scope of this thesis, it concerns the introduction of contaminants from the soil after interment and the post-excavation preservation efforts. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Tracing anthropogenic Technology Critical Elements using Environmental Forensics : Case studies at Kallholmsfjärden and the Bothnian Bay, northern Sweden

    Författare :Stacy Sutliff-Johansson; Anders Widerlund; Kristi Korkka-Niemi; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Environmental Forensics; Technology Critical Elements; Sediment Contamination; Groundwater Contamination; Contaminant Tracing; Tillämpad geokemi; Applied Geochemistry;

    Sammanfattning : The rapidly changing landscape of today's technology industry has increased the number of electronic products being discarded. Society is always on the hunt for the latest product and newest technological advancement, thereby creating a constant influx of older model products into fast-growing waste streams. LÄS MER
