  1. 16. Mitochondrial function in sepsis - Temporal evolvement of respiratory capacity in human blood cells

    Författare :Fredrik Sjövall; Lund Institutionen för kliniska vetenskaper; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; human; sepsis; severe sepsis; septic shock; platelets; mitochondria; OXPHOS; high-resolution respirometry; mitochondrial disorders; multiple organ failure; biogenesis; leukocytes; cytokines; respirometry; oxygen consumption; blood cells; temporal;

    Sammanfattning : Sepsis is a devastating disease that is caused by the host’s response to an overwhelming infectious process. As sepsis progresses, organs distant from the site of infection become affected and sepsis-induced multiple organ failure ensues. LÄS MER

  2. 17. The Invasion of the Zebra Mussel - Effects on Phytoplankton Community Structure and Ecosystem Function

    Författare :Rahmat Naddafi; Kurt Pettersson; Peter Eklöv; Willem Goedkoop; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Invasive species; Zebra mussel; Invasion success; Selective feeding; Non-lethal effects of predator; Seston stoichiometry; Delayed fluorescence excitation spectroscopy; Phytoplankton dynamics; Trait-mediated indirect interaction; Ecosystem function;

    Sammanfattning : Biological invasion has become a major threat to economy, ecology, global biodiversity and ecosystem function of aquatic ecosystems. The main aim of the thesis was to study the effects of the zebra mussel (Dreissena polymorpha), a versatile invasive species, on phytoplankton dynamics and ecosystem function of lakes. LÄS MER

  3. 18. Oil consumption and Friction in a Piston Ring-Cylinder Liner assembly.-A multifunctional Surface Approach

    Författare :Cecilia Anderberg; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Cylinder liner surface; surface characterization; oil consumption; surface texture parameters;

    Sammanfattning : About a half of the frictional losses in an internal combustion engine come from the interactions between the piston assembly and cylinder liner surface. The tribological considerations in the contact between the piston ring and cylinder liner have attracted much attention over the past few decades. LÄS MER

  4. 19. Aiming for change : intentional communities and ideology in function

    Författare :Josefin Larsson; Anna Jónasdóttir; Ingemar Elander; Lucy Sargisson; Örebro universitet; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Statsvetenskap; intentional communities; ideology; utopia; communalism; utopian studies; communal studies; politikvetenskap; Political science; Statsvetenskap; Political Science; Statskunskap;

    Sammanfattning : The question raised in this thesis is whether there is a common ideology to be found among intentional communities, and if so, what does characterise such an ideology and how does it relate to the traditional –isms? The study takes its theoretical point of departure in a functional concept of ideology, along with six dimensions of social critique: the political, the politico-economic, the politico-sexual, the psychosocial, the religious and spiritual, and the environmental. The findings of this study indicate that intentional communities have a common ideological core. LÄS MER

  5. 20. The relevance and assessment of limb muscle function in individuals with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease

    Författare :Erik Frykholm; André Nyberg; Ann Sörlin; Per Stål; Thomas Sandström; Lars Nyberg; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; COPD; lower and upper limb activities; quadriceps function; reliability; association; physiotherapy; fysioterapi;

    Sammanfattning : Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a disease that is characterised by persistent respiratory symptoms and airflow limitation. Consequences beyond the airways and lungs are common, and include limb muscle dysfunction. LÄS MER
