  1. 1. Evolutionary Analysis of the Insulin-Relaxin Gene Family from the Perspective of Gene and Genome Duplication Events

    Författare :Robert Piotr Olinski; Finn Hallböök; Mike Thorndyke; Pierre Pontarotti; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Neurosciences; insulin; relaxin; insulin-like protein; gene duplication; paralogous region; Ciona intestinalis; conserved synteny; ortholog; Drosophila melanogaster; Neurovetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Paralogs arise by duplications and belong to families. Ten paralogs (insulin; IGF-1 and -2; INSL3-6 and 3-relaxins) constitute the human insulin-relaxin family. The aim of this study was to outline the duplications that gave rise to the vertebrate insulin-relaxin genes and the chromosomal regions in which they reside. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Quantitative Genetics and Genome Structure in a Wild Population: the Use of a Great Reed Warbler Pedigree

    Författare :Mikael Åkesson; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; genome mapping ; AFLP; microsatellite; synteny; heterochiasmy; recombination; chicken; great reed warbler ; bird; Genetics; cytogenetics; Genetik; cytogenetik; Animal ecology; trait correlation ; Djurekologi; animal model ; selection; Djurs anatomi och morfologi; animal morphology; Animal anatomy; heritability;

    Sammanfattning : Long-term studies of birds play an important role in the understanding of quantitative traits in natural populations. The relative ease by which individual birds can be monitored and caught in the wild enable us collect detailed information from individuals throughout their life time, sometimes from several generations in a population. 3. 3. Evolution and Pharmacology of Receptors for Bradykinin and Neuropeptide Y in Vertebrates

    Författare :Torun Bromée; dan larhammar; Nina Mohell; Samuel Svensson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Neurosciences; Pharmacology; Evolution; Neurovetenskap; Neurology; Neurologi;

    Sammanfattning : The bradykinin and neuropeptide Y (NPY) receptors belong to the superfamily of G-protein coupled receptors (GPCRs). The GPCRs form the largest class of therapeutic targets and it is therefore of great interest to investigate the pharmacological properties, functions and evolution of these receptors. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Cloning, Expression, Pharmacological Characterization and Anatomical Distribution of Melanocortin Receptors in an Evolutionary Perspective

    Författare :Aneta I. Ringholm; Helgi B. Schiöth; Dan Larhammar; Björn Olde; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmacology; evolution; melanocortin; MSH; pharmacology; genome duplication; tetraploidization; zebrafish; spiny dogfish; chicken; GPCR; polymorphism; pigmentation; Farmakologi; Pharmacological research; Farmakologisk forskning;

    Sammanfattning : The melanocortin (MC) receptors are G-protein coupled receptors thatparticipate in several important physiological functions such as the regulation of the energy balance. This thesis focuses on the evolutionary aspect of the MC receptors and their pharmacology.One MC4 receptor and two MC5 receptor subtypes were found in a teleost fish, zebrafish. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Probabilistic Modelling of Domain and Gene Evolution

    Författare :Sayyed Auwn Muhammad; Jens Lagergren; Bastien Boussau; KTH; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Phylogenetics; Phylogenomics; Evolution; Domain Evolution; Gene tree; Domain tree; Bayesian Inference; Markov Chain Monte Carlo; Homology Inference; Gene families; C2H2 Zinc-Finger; Reelin Protein; Computer Science; Datalogi;

    Sammanfattning : Phylogenetic inference relies heavily on statistical models that have been extended and refined over the past years into complex hierarchical models to capture the intricacies of evolutionary processes. The wealth of information in the form of fully sequenced genomes has led to the development of methods that are used to reconstruct the gene and species evolutionary histories in greater and more accurate detail.
