    Författare :Mikaela Ceder; Robert Fredriksson; Anita Öst; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Solute carrier; SLC; Putative SLCs; Major facilitator superfamily; MFS; Drosophila melanogaster; Glucose metabolism; UNC93A; CG4928; Farmaceutisk vetenskap; Pharmaceutical Science;

    Sammanfattning : The solute carrier family is the largest family of membrane-bound transporters in humans, with 430 members divided into 65 subfamilies. They transport various substrates across lipid barriers and are vital for absorption, distribution, metabolism and excretion in all cell types in the body. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Population genetic analyses in the orchid genus Gymnadenia : a conservation genetic perspective

    Författare :Susanne Gustafsson; Pia Mutikainen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Genetic engineering; Orchidaceae; Gymnadenia; conservation; microsatellites; genetic structure; mating pattern; Genteknik; Genetic engineering including functional genomics; Genteknik inkl. funktionsgenomik; naturvårdsbiologi; Conservation Biology;

    Sammanfattning : Small populations are facing a particular risk of extinction due to a lack of appropriate genetic diversity and associated negative effects, factors dealt with in the discipline of conservation genetics. Many orchid species exhibit characteristics that make them a perfect study object in the scope of conservation genetics. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Genetic Identification of Corkwing Wrasse Cleaner Fish Escaping from Norwegian Aquaculture

    Författare :Ellika Faust; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Conservation; Population structure; Genetics; Aquaculture; Hybridization; Corkwing wrasse; Cleaner fish; Sea lice; Symphodus melops; Escapee; Range expansion;

    Sammanfattning : The genetic impact of farmed fish escaping aquaculture is a highly debated issue. However, non-target species, such as cleaner fish that are used in fish farms to remove parasitic sea lice, are rarely considered. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Habitat selection, nest predation and conservation biology in a Black-tailed Godwit (Limosa limosa) population

    Författare :Tomas Johansson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Developmental biology; Black-tailed godwit; Limosa limosa; nest site selection; nest predation; philopatry; risk analysis; Utvecklingsbiologi; Developmental biology; Utvecklingsbiologi; populationsbiologi; Population Biology;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis focuses on a black-tailed godwit (Limosa limosa) population, consisting of 35-40 pairs, that breeds on a grazed shore meadow on SE Gotland, Sweden. The small size of the population makes it more prone to extinction due to chance events, than a larger population.The godwits showed microhabitat preferences when choosing nest sites. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Plant ecological studies related to restoration of a degraded ecosystem in central Tanzania

    Författare :Shadrack Eliapenda; Ingvar Backéus; Karin Bengtsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Developmental biology; Conservation; land degradation; population growth rate; population structure; regeneration; Utvecklingsbiologi; Developmental biology; Utvecklingsbiologi; Ecological Botany; Ekologisk botanik;

    Sammanfattning : Kondoa Irangi area is among the most degraded ecosystems in Central Tanzania as a result of heavygrazing, fire, collection of fuelwood and improper cultivation practices. The restoration process of thisdegraded ecosystem through natural regeneration is slowed by the semi-arid climate of the area combinedwith poor soil nutrient status. LÄS MER
