  1. 1. Infectious and bleeding complications in patients with hematological malignancies : Studies on diagnosis and prevention

    Författare :Tobias Svensson; Honar Cherif; Martin Höglund; Jan Sjölin; Christine Wennerås; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Chronic lymphocytic leukemia; Immunodeficiency; Hypogammaglobulinemia; IgG subclass; Pneumococci; Pneumococcal vaccine; Polysaccharide vaccine; Protein-conjugate vaccine; Aspergillosis; Bronchoalveolar lavage; Invasive fungal disease; Pneumocystis jirovecii pneumonia; Myelodysplastic syndrome; Azacitidine; Eltrombopag; Thrombocytopenia; Thrombopoietin receptor; Oncology; Onkologi;

    Sammanfattning : The overall aim of this thesis is to improve knowledge about the prevention of infectious and bleeding complications in patients with hematological malignancies, primarily in those with chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) and myelodysplatic syndrome (MDS).Hypogammaglobulinemia, impaired production of immunoglobulins (Ig), is an established risk factor for infection, but the impact of IgG pure subclass deficiency (IgG subclass deficiency with adequate production of IgG, IgA, and IgM) has been debated. 2. 2. Impact of the inflammatory response on specific immunity in neurosurgical patients

    Författare :Anna Ljunghill Hedberg; Jan Sjölin; Karlis Pauksen; Lars Hagberg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; T-cell-dependent vaccine; T-cell-independent vaccine; CNS injury-induced immune deficiency syndrome; pneumococcal conjugate vaccine; pneumococcal polysaccharide vaccine; posttraumatic meningitis.; Medicinsk vetenskap; Medical Science; Infektionssjukdomar; Infectious Diseases;

    Sammanfattning : Vaccination with a T-cell-dependent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV) followed by a T-cell-independent pneumococcal polysaccharide vaccine (PPSV) is recommended after basilar skull fracture to reduce the risk of meningitis. The optimal time frame for vaccination has not yet been established and varies widely in practice. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Antibody- and Peptide-based Immunotherapies : Proof-of-concept and safety considerations

    Författare :Erika Fletcher; Sara Mangsbo; Vivianne Malmström; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Immune complex; conjugat; vaccine; CD40; whole blood; cytokine release syndrome; Immunologi; Immunology;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of cancer immunotherapy is to eradicate tumours by inducing a tumour-specific immune response. This thesis focuses on how antibodies and peptides can improve antigen presentation and the subsequent tumour-specific T cell response. Tumour recognition by the immune system can be promoted through delivery of antigen in the form of a vaccine. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Immunogenicity and protective potential of Protein D of Haemophilus influenzae against H. influenzae infection

    Författare :Mustafa Akkoyunlu; Malmö Klinisk mikrobiologi; []

    Sammanfattning : Both Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib) and nontypeable H. influenzae (NTHi) are important human pathogens causing invasive and mucosal infections. Currently there are number of vaccines available against Hib infections. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : Objectives:The overall aim of the dissertation is to examine antibody response to immunization with pneumococcal vaccine in patients with inflammatory rheumatic disease (IRD), in relation to disease-modifying antirheumatic drug (DMARD) treatments, and in postsplenectomy patients.Methods:(I) Splenectomized patients without previous pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV) immunization were invited to receive one dose 13-valent PCV (PCV13).
