  1. 1. Methods and models for 2D and 3D image analysis in microscopy, in particular for the study of muscle cells

    Författare :Patrick Karlsson Edlund; Ewert Bengtsson; Joakim Lindblad; Carolina Wählby; Fritz Albregtsen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :medical image analysis; image segmentation; fluorescence microscopy; cytometry; human skeletal muscle;

    Sammanfattning : Many research questions in biological research lead to numerous microscope images that need to be evaluated. Here digital image cytometry, i.e., quantitative, automated or semi-automated analysis of the images is an important rapidly growing discipline. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Cellular Uptake of Amyloid Forming Proteins Related to Neurodegenerative Disease

    Författare :Emelie Vilhelmsson Wesén; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Aβ 1-40 ; flow cytometry; confocal microscopy; SH-SY5Y; fluorescence; Aβ 1-42 ; Alzheimer’s disease; amyloid fibril; α-synuclein; amyloid-β;

    Sammanfattning : Aggregation and deposition of disease-associated protein is a pathological hallmark of several human disorders, including Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and Parkinson’s disease (PD). These diseases are characterized by the formation of amyloid-β (Aβ) and α-synuclein (α-syn) amyloid fibrils, in extracellular and intracellular locations, respectively. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : The detection and analysis of biomolecules, such as proteins, are of great interest since these molecules are fundamental for life and our health. Due to the complexity of biological processes, there is a great advantage of studying proteins in their natural context, for example by using bioimaging. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Analysis of human epidermal Langerhans' cells and allergens with confocal laser scanning microscopy

    Författare :Axel Emilson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :3-D analysis; allergen; allergic contact dermatitis; basal cellcarcinoma; Bet v I; birch; confocal laser scanning microscopy; epidermis; HLA-DR; image analysis; invariant chain; irritant contact dermatitis; Langerhans cell; occlusion; P. orbiculare;

    Sammanfattning : The aim of the thesis was to explore confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM) as a tool for 1) quantitative and 3-dimensional (3-D) analysis of the human antigen-presenting Langerhans' cell (LC) in epidermis and 2) for localization of allergens in yeast cells and in birch pollen. Epidermal LCs were investigated after occlusion with patch tests and in basal cell carcinoma (BCC) skin. LÄS MER
