1. Lime Mud Reburning. Properties and Quality of the Lime Produced
Sammanfattning : It is of utmost importance that the white liquor used in the digester of a sulphate pulp mill is of high quality. The white liquor is prepared in the causticizing plant, through causticizing of the sodium carbonate in the green liquor. LÄS MER
2. Investigating ruminal nitrogen metabolism : in vitro and in vivo studies using ¹⁵N-labelled forage nitrogen fractions
Sammanfattning : Nitrogen losses from dairy production have negative impacts on the environment and on production economics. In Northern Europe, dairy cattle are mainly fed forage-based diets supplemented with protein feeds such as rapeseed meal. LÄS MER
3. Novel Technique for Analysing Volatile Compounds in Indoor Dust : Application of Gas Chromatography – UV Spectrometry to the Study of Building-Related Illness
Sammanfattning : It is now generally acknowledged that particulate air pollution can cause respiratory symptoms and that indoor dust particles may be associated with mucous membrane irritation and odour annoyance. One reason for this may be that dust particles adsorb large quantities of gases and other volatile compounds. LÄS MER
4. Towards better understanding of the flow inside industrial processes: a CFD study
Sammanfattning : Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) is a method to numerically pre- dict flow patterns. In this thesis the method is used to predict the flow in a hydrochloric acid regeneration plant located at SSAB EMEA in Borl ̈ange and to investigate the flow in a burner region of a rotary kiln at LKAB in Kiruna. 5. Porous materials based on nanopolysaccharides for medical applications: Effect of crosslinking on pore structure and mechanical performance
Sammanfattning : The objective of this work was to develop nanochitin- and nanocellulose-based crosslinked porous nanostructured materials for wound dressing and cartilage repair with suitable porosity and mechanical properties to facilitate cell growth. In the first part of the work (papers I-III), chitosan-based nanocomposites loaded with a high concentration (50 wt%) of chitin nanocrystals (ChNC) and cellulose nanocrystals (CNC) were prepared via electrospinning for use as wound dressing materials.
