11. Synthesis and characterization of zeolite films and membranes
Sammanfattning : In this work, a seeding technique was used to synthesize films and membranes of FAU, LTA and MFI type zeolites. In the first part, hydrothermal growth was performed without organic template molecules, which resulted in template-free zeolite films and membranes. LÄS MER
12. Interacting with biological membranes using organic electronic devices
Sammanfattning : Many physiological processes are reliant on activities in the cell membrane. These activities are of great importance to our well-being since they allow the cells to respond to their environment and communicate with each other to function as tissues and organs. LÄS MER
13. Nanoscale technologies for plasmon-assisted solar light harvesting and lipid membrane composites
Sammanfattning : Techniques for design, manipulation and characterization of nanoscale structures provide the basis for technological advances in areas like optics, electronics and biotechnology. The aim of this thesis is to develop new nanoscale methods and design schemes that extend the applicability of nanoscale devices. LÄS MER
14. Processing and characterization of membranes based on cellulose nanocrystals for water purification : Nanocellulose as functional entity
Sammanfattning : Membrane technology is being extensively used in water purification as an energy efficient and low cost process. Nanostructured (NSM) and nanoenabled (NEM) membranes are favored in this context as nanoscaled entities are expected to provide high surface area, high mechanical properties and versatile surface chemistry as well as provide better control on the pore size and distribution, flux and selectivity of the membrane. 15. Mass transport mechanisms and module design aspects in the recovery of dilute volatile organic compounds by hydrophobic pervaporation
Sammanfattning : Hydrophobic pervaporation has gained a lot of attention as an alternative process for mild aroma recovery, but the real commercial applications of this process are still in their infancies. Better understanding of mass transport phenomena in composite pervaporation membranes is essential from the point of view of membrane manufacturing, while process simulation is an important tool for predicting pervaporation module performance.
