  1. 21. The complex world of proteins: Structure, function, and oligomerization of frataxin

    Författare :Christopher Söderberg; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Frataxin; Friedreich s ataxia; self-assembly; protein-protein interaction; iron homeostasis; SAXS; cross-linking;

    Sammanfattning : Patients suffering from the deadly progressive neurodegenerative disease Friedreich's ataxia have reduced levels of expression of the protein frataxin. Yeast frataxin has been extensively studied in vitro, and has been shown to deliver iron to heme and iron-sulfur cluster biosynthesis, as well as to oligomerize in the presence of iron. LÄS MER

  2. 22. On the antiporter-like subunits of respiratory chain Complex I - implications for the evolution and coupling mechanism of the NADH:quinone oxidoreductase enzyme complex

    Författare :Cecilie Mathiesen; Biokemi och Strukturbiologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Metabolism; Biokemi; metabolism; Biochemistry; mrp; electron transport; respiration; membrane protein;

    Sammanfattning : Complex I or NADH:quinone oxidoreductase is the largest enzyme complex, but the least understood energy coupling site in the respiratory chain of mitochondria and bacteria. No high-resolution structural information exists for this enzyme and the molecular mechanism that couples electron transfer and proton pumping is not understood. LÄS MER

  3. 23. Anisotropic Protein Interactions in Salt Solutions and at Interfaces: Coarse Grained Modeling

    Författare :Anil Kurut Sabanoglu; Beräkningskemi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Anisotropic interactions; protein electrostatics; phase association; surface adsorption; coarse grained models; Monte Carlo simulations;

    Sammanfattning : Anisotropic protein interactions have a strong orientation dependence resulting from an uneven distribution of charged and hydrophobic residues on the protein surface. They play an important role in protein behaviors such as protein association, surface adsorption and phase separation. LÄS MER

  4. 24. Free oligosaccharides and glycosylation of bile salt-stimulated lipase in human milk

    Författare :Eva Landberg; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Sammanfattning : Bile salt-stimulated lipase (BSSL) is a glycosylated protein present in milk at a concentration of 100-200 mg/L. It is an enzyme important for fat digestion in the newborn infant. The protein backbone contains one possible site for N-glyeosylation and several sites for 0-glyeosylation. LÄS MER

  5. 25. On the Phase Behaviour of Soft Matter: Understanding Complex Interactions via Quantitative Imaging

    Författare :Maxime Bergman; Fysikalisk kemi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Microgels; Lysozyme; eye lens proteins; confocal microscopy; interaction potential; phase behaviour; simulations;

    Sammanfattning : The effect of microscopic colloid interactions on the resultant macroscopic phase behaviour is a frequently studied topic in soft matter resarch, and lies at the heart of this thesis. Key structural and dynamic properties of colloidal model systems across liquid-solid transitions are tracked using optical imaging techniques. LÄS MER
