11. Metal Mediated Synthesis. Synthetic and Mechanistic Investigations of Conjugate Addition and Reductive Amination
Sammanfattning : The thesis is divided into two separate parts, one treating conjugate addition and the other reductive aminations. The first part of the thesis is concerned with organocopper promoted conjugate addition to .alfa.,. LÄS MER
12. Nanostructure and biomolecule interactions : Characterizing the complex
Sammanfattning : This thesis presents the results of studies done on various biomolecules and their interactions with nanomaterials. The biomolecule sources are everything from purified, single proteins to the complicated mixture of blood serum and cell culture media. LÄS MER
13. Painfully Energetic : A tale of two proteins potentially connected
Sammanfattning : NADH:quinone oxidoreductase (Complex I) is the first enzyme of the respiratory chain and is involved in energy conservation generating an electro-chemical gradient across a membrane. The enzyme can be divided into a membrane spanning domain and a hydrophilic domain, which protrudes from the membrane. LÄS MER
14. Intestinal mucins 'soluble and insoluble problems'
Sammanfattning : Highly glycosylated glycoproteins – mucins – are the major constituents of the mucus layer and glycocalyx that cover mucosal surfaces. Twelve human mucin genes have been identified, and the mucins may be divided into those that are membraneassociated and those that are secreted. LÄS MER
15. Interactions of Anticancer Active Platinum(II) Complexes with DNA
Sammanfattning : The kinetics and mechanism for interactions of the anticancer active platinum(II) complexes cis-[PtCl2(NH3)2)], cis-[PtCl2(NH3)(c-C6H11NH2)], and trans-[PtCl2-(NH3)(quinoline)] with DNA have been studied using a combination of HPLC, circular dichroism (CD), UV/vis spectroscopy, and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). Reactions of the monoaqua forms (charge = +1) of these complexes with single-stranded DNA oligonucleotides, typically between 13-17 bases long, were found to depend on i) the composition of the reaction medium, ii) the exact nature and location of the platination target, and iii) on the DNA structure.
