21. Fecal calprotectin in children with special reference to inflammatory bowel disease
Sammanfattning : This thesis aims to study the clinical usefulness of fecal calprotectin as a noninvasive marker of colonic inflammation in children with suspected or confirmed chronic inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Calprotectin, a calcium-binding protein predominantly expressed in neutrophils, is stable in feces for several days, and can be measured by an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. LÄS MER
22. Biological Activities of Natural and Semi-Synthetic Pseudo-Guaianolides: Inhibition of Transcription Factors
Sammanfattning : Damsin (1) is a natural sesquiterpene lactone (SL) isolated from Ambrosia arborescens Mill., a plant used in the Andes as antiinflammatory medicine. LÄS MER
23. Functional properties of galectin-3. Beyond the sugar binding
Sammanfattning : Contemporary diseases like diabetes, asthma, atherosclerosis etc. are marked by chronic inflammation, often supported by the activity of different macrophages. Proteins from galectin family were found to contribute to disease pathophysiology. Therefore, there is an intensive interest in understanding different galectin functions. LÄS MER
24. Allosteric Regulation of mRNA Metabolism : -Mechanisms of Cap-Dependent Regulation of Poly(A)-specific Ribonuclease (PARN)
Sammanfattning : Degradation of mRNA is a highly regulated step important for proper gene expression. Degradation of eukaryotic mRNA is initiated by shortening of the 3’ end located poly(A) tail. Poly(A)-specific ribonuclease (PARN) is an oligomeric enzyme that degrades the poly(A) tail with high processivity. LÄS MER
25. The immunoglobulin heavy chain 3ʼ enhancer : coupling of basic-Helix-Loop-Helix proteins to the regulation of enhancer function
Sammanfattning : During B lymphocyte development, the transcriptional activity of the IgH locus is subject to spatial and temporal changes. One cis-control element, the IgH 3' enhancer, has been implicated in regulating functional events in late B cell development. LÄS MER
