  1. 6. Quantum Chemical Studies of Chemotherapeutic Drug Cisplatin : Activation and Binding to DNA

    Författare :Johan Raber; David van der Spoel; Paolo Carloni; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :Quantum chemistry; cisplatin; quantum chemistry; DNA; density functional theory; activation; JM118; substitution reaction; Platinum; guanine; adenine; cytostatic drug; aquation; anation; activation; Kvantkemi;

    Sammanfattning : The serendipitous discovery of the potent cytotoxic properties of cisplatin brought about a revolution in the treatment of certain types of cancer, but almost fifty years later, there still remain unknown areas in the chemistry of cisplatin. There are questions regarding which form of the drug reaches its DNA target, or why certain DNA sequences are more preferred than others for reaction with cisplatin. LÄS MER

  2. 7. Effects of Complement Opsonization of HIV on Dendritic Cells : and Implications for the Immune Response

    Författare :Rada Ellegård; Marie Larsson; Jorma Hinkula; Johan D Söderholm; William Paxton; Linköpings universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; HIV; dendritic cells; complement; innate immune response; TLR signaling; T cell activation; NK cells; inflammation; antiviral response; immune evasion;

    Sammanfattning : Dendritic cells are key players during HIV pathogenesis, and shape both the immediate immune response at the site of infection as well as directing the adaptive immune response against the virus. HIV has developed a plethora of immune evasion mechanisms that hijack dendritic cell functions, suppressing their ability to mount an accurate immune response and exploiting them for efficient viral transfer to target T cells. 3. 8. The complement system in stherosclerosis and arthritis

    Författare :Linda Persson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Nyckelord :complement; C3; factor B; ASP; atherosclerosis; hyperlipidemia; arthritis;

    Sammanfattning : The complement system plays an essential role in the humoral immune response. Activated complement has diverse functions, including the initiation of inflammation, recruitment of leukocytes, clearance of immune complexes, neutralization of pathogens, regulation of antibody responses and disruption of cell membranes. 4. 9. Interactions between platelets and complement with implications for the regulation at surfaces

    Författare :Per H. Nilsson; Kristina Nilsson Ekdahl; John Lambris; Ian Nicholls; Berhane Ghebrehiwet; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; complement system activation; regulation ; platelets activation; regulation ; biomaterials; biocompatibility; chondroitin sulfate-A; apyrase; C1q; C3; factor H; C4BP; ADP; Biomedical Sciences; Biomedicinsk vetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : Disturbances of host integrity have the potential to evoke activation of innate immunologic and hemostatic protection mechanisms in blood. Irrespective of whether the activating stimulus is typically immunogenic or thrombotic, it will generally affect both the complement system and platelets to a certain degree. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Crosstalk Between Activated Platelets and the Complement System

    Författare :Osama A. Hamad; Bo Nilsson; Kristina Ekdahl-Nilsson; Lennart Truedsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; platelets; activated platelets; TRAP; chondroitin sulfate; C1q; factor H; C4BP; C3; Compstatin; complement; platelet-leukocyte complexes; platelet microparticles; Clinical immunology; Klinisk immunologi; Klinisk immunologi; Clinical Immunology;

    Sammanfattning : Several studies have shown that complement and thrombotic events co-exist. Platelets have been suspected to act as the bridge between the two cascade systems. LÄS MER
