  1. 1. Correlated random effects models for clustered survival data

    Författare :Frank Eriksson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; Göteborgs universitet; Gothenburg University; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; competing risks; case-cohort; semiparametric; Survival analysis; random effects; routine register; frailty model; Survival analysis; frailty model; competing risks; random effects; case-cohort; routine register; semiparametric;

    Sammanfattning : Frailty models are frequently used to analyse clustered survival data in medical contexts. The frailties, or random effects, are used to model the association between individual survival times within clusters. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Essays on Immigrants' Economic Integration

    Författare :Kerem Tezic; Göteborgs universitet; Göteborgs universitet; Gothenburg University; []
    Nyckelord :SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Second-generation immigrants; educational attainments; early labour-market experiences; competing-risks; graduate employment; calibration; first-generation immigrants; sample-selection in panel data; random effects.;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis consists of five papers, related to each other in terms of study-sample, study-subject or methods used. The first paper is concerned with second-generation immigrants' educational attainments, using the Longitudinal Individual Data-set (LINDA), which gave us the possibility to examine changes over time, from ages 16-17 to 21-22 and to compare second-generation immigrants with a randomly-chosen matched control-group of native Swedes. Sammanfattning : Increased possibilities during the last decades for early detection of prostate cancer have sparked research on preventable or treatable risk factors and on improvements in therapy. Treatments of the disease still entail significant side effects potentially affecting men during the rest of their lives. LÄS MER

  4. 4. Holistic approach in engineering design - controlling risks from accidental hazards in bridge design

    Författare :Ivar Björnsson; Avdelningen för Konstruktionsteknik; []
    Nyckelord :TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; design; codes; accidental; extreme; bridges; holistic; approach; robustness; risk; reliability; uncertainty;

    Sammanfattning : Engineering design, in concise terms, is what engineers do using what they know. It is the underlying decision making activity that determines what is to be built and how it should be built. An ever present requirement in engineering design is that the structure should be safe. 5. 5. Commercialization done differently : How Swedish university incubators facilitate the formation of knowledge-intensive entrepreneurial firms

    Författare :Linus Brunnström; Göteborgs universitet; Göteborgs universitet; Gothenburg University; []
    Nyckelord :Commercialization University Incubator Knowledge-Intensive Entrepreneurial Firms Incubator Performance Inventor Ownership Mixed Methods Competing Risks;

    Sammanfattning : Den här avhandlingen, i monografiformat, undersöker universitetsinkubatorernas roll i skapandet av kunskapsintensiva (KIE) företag i Sverige. Det ovanliga institutionella regelverk för hur man kommersialiserar forskningsresultat i Sverige gör ämnet intressant. LÄS MER
