21. A Genetic Survey of the Pathogenic Parasite Trypanosoma cruzi
Sammanfattning : Trypanosoma cruzi, the causative agent of Chagas´ disease, is an evolutionarily ancient species with distinct biological and immunological characteristics. A fundamental understanding of the basic biology of the parasite is necessary in order to develop reliable therapeutic and prophylactic agents against T. cruzi. We have, as a part of the T. LÄS MER
22. Methods for Reliable Image Registration : Algorithms, Distance Measures, and Representations
Sammanfattning : Much biomedical and medical research relies on the collection of ever-larger amounts of image data (both 2D images and 3D volumes, as well as time-series) and increasingly from multiple sources. Image registration, the process of finding correspondences between images based on the affinity of features of interest, is often required as a vital step towards the final analysis, which may consist of a comparison of images, measurement of movement, or fusion of complementary information. 23. Exploring the ecotoxicity of microparticle debris
Sammanfattning : The global distribution and anticipated increase of environmental microplastic (MP) pollution are concerning. However, while the impacts of macroplastic litter on wildlife are apparent, we know relatively little about the MP hazard potential. LÄS MER
24. Molecularly Imprinted Polymers at the Nanometric Scale: Synthetic Receptors for Chemical Sensors
Sammanfattning : In this thesis, polymerisation techniques or deposition methods have been developed permitting the creation of thin molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) films or patterns and their interfacing with transducer surfaces for biosensor applications. The creation of ultra thin films has been achieved using two different techniques, spin-coating and in-situ polymerization of thin films of monomers containing a sacrificial polymeric porogen, and autoassembly of MIP nanoparticles with the aid of an associative linear polymer. 25. The use of molecular markers for identifying species diversity and functional variation of ectomycorrhizal fungi
Sammanfattning : Ectomycorrhiza (EM) is a symbiosis between soil living fungi and the roots of woody plants. EM fungal communities are important in forest nutrient cycling, they are species rich and their structures vary between habitats and over time. LÄS MER
