  1. 21. A Genetic Survey of the Pathogenic Parasite Trypanosoma cruzi

    Författare :Anh-Nhi Tran; Lena Åslund; John Kelly; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Molecular genetics; Trypanosoma cruzi; Chagas ; gene discovery; EST; sequencing; DGC3; repeats; gene family; CL Brener; trypanothione synthetase; TcTRS locus; alleles; polymorphism; RNA-binding protein; TcPTB; stage-specific expression; Genetik; Genetics; Genetik; medicinsk genetik; Medical Genetics;

    Sammanfattning : Trypanosoma cruzi, the causative agent of Chagas´ disease, is an evolutionarily ancient species with distinct biological and immunological characteristics. A fundamental understanding of the basic biology of the parasite is necessary in order to develop reliable therapeutic and prophylactic agents against T. cruzi. We have, as a part of the T. LÄS MER

  2. 22. Methods for Reliable Image Registration : Algorithms, Distance Measures, and Representations

    Författare :Johan Öfverstedt; Natasa Sladoje; Mattias Heinrich; Uppsala universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Image registration; alignment; local optimization; global optimization; mutual information; normalized gradient fields; representation learning; Computerized Image Processing; Datoriserad bildbehandling;

    Sammanfattning : Much biomedical and medical research relies on the collection of ever-larger amounts of image data (both 2D images and 3D volumes, as well as time-series) and increasingly from multiple sources. Image registration, the process of finding correspondences between images based on the affinity of features of interest, is often required as a vital step towards the final analysis, which may consist of a comparison of images, measurement of movement, or fusion of complementary information. 3. 23. Exploring the ecotoxicity of microparticle debris

    Författare :Zandra Gerdes; Elena Gorokhova; Martin Ogonowski; Tamara Galloway; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; microplastics as emerging pollutants; hazard assessment; ecotoxicological experimental design; aquatic toxicology; chemical vector; suspended solids; reference particles; crustaceans as test organisms; behavioural assays in ecotoxicology; Applied Environmental Science; tillämpad miljövetenskap;

    Sammanfattning : The global distribution and anticipated increase of environmental microplastic (MP) pollution are concerning. However, while the impacts of macroplastic litter on wildlife are apparent, we know relatively little about the MP hazard potential. LÄS MER

  4. 24. Molecularly Imprinted Polymers at the Nanometric Scale: Synthetic Receptors for Chemical Sensors

    Författare :Anne-Sophie Belmont; Tillämpad biokemi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; biopolymers; Polymer technology; Biokemisk teknik; Biochemical technology; Nanostructures; Synthetic Receptors; Optical Sensors; Molecular Imprinting; Polymer; Polymerteknik;

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis, polymerisation techniques or deposition methods have been developed permitting the creation of thin molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) films or patterns and their interfacing with transducer surfaces for biosensor applications. The creation of ultra thin films has been achieved using two different techniques, spin-coating and in-situ polymerization of thin films of monomers containing a sacrificial polymeric porogen, and autoassembly of MIP nanoparticles with the aid of an associative linear polymer. 5. 25. The use of molecular markers for identifying species diversity and functional variation of ectomycorrhizal fungi

    Författare :Jenny Hedh; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ectomycorrhiza; molecular markers; Paxillus involutus; ITS region; phylogenetic species; host compatibility; gene expression; CGH;

    Sammanfattning : Ectomycorrhiza (EM) is a symbiosis between soil living fungi and the roots of woody plants. EM fungal communities are important in forest nutrient cycling, they are species rich and their structures vary between habitats and over time. LÄS MER
