1. Community stress exposure: Youth externalizing behavior and parenting in cultural context
Sammanfattning : The aim of this thesis was to examine the process by which families respond to community-wide stressors in different cultural contexts. Each quantitative study within this thesis investigated the role of parenting behaviors and aspects of the co-parent relationship and/or the parent-child relationship that may attenuate negative effects of exposure to stressful events across cultures and time. 2. Community Robustness Analysis : Theoretical Approaches to Identifying Keystone Structures in Ecological Communities
Sammanfattning : Most of the world’s ecosystems suffer from stress caused by human activities such as habitat destruction, fragmentation, overexploitation of species and climate change. These factors affect the reproduction and/or survival of individual species as well as interactions between species in ecological communities. LÄS MER
3. Psychosocial and stress-related aspects on ischemic heart disease
Sammanfattning : Objective: To study different aspects of ischemic heart disease (IHD) i.e. stress related risk factors, biochemical markers of stress, in particular the cortisol awakening response (CAR) and outcome in terms of health related quality of life (HRQoL). Methods: 72 myocardial infarction (AMI) patients took part in the HRQoL studies. LÄS MER
4. In situ remediation of contaminated sediments using thin-layer capping : efficiency in contaminant retention and ecological implications
Sammanfattning : Hydrophobic organic contaminants (HOCs) often reside in sediments sorbed to particles, most tightly to particles with high content of organic carbon. If persistent, such pollutants can accumulate in the sediment for many years and constitute a contamination risk for sediment-living organisms and organisms at higher trophic levels, including humans. 5. Internet-based treatment of stress urinary incontinence : treatment outcome, patient satisfaction, and cost-effectiveness
Sammanfattning : Background Stress urinary incontinence (SUI) is the leakage of urine when coughing, sneezing, or on exertion. It affects 10-35% of women, and can impair quality of life (QOL). First-line treatment is pelvic floor muscle training (PFMT). However, access barriers and embarrassment may prevent women from seeking care. LÄS MER
