  1. 1. Mapping incomplete relational data : networks in ecology & evolution

    Författare :Daniel Edler; Martin Rosvall; Alexandre Antonelli; Renaud Lambiotte; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; network science; information theory; map equation; community detection; biogeography; evolution;

    Sammanfattning : We live in an interconnected world full of complex systems that cannot be understood simply by analyzing their components. From how genes regulate biological functions to the distribution of life on Earth, we need methods that can analyze systems as a whole. LÄS MER

  2. 2. Evolution of Plants : a mathematical perspective

    Författare :Magnus Lindh; Åke Brännström; Jacob Johansson; Mats G Larson; Lennart Persson; Claus Rüffler; Umeå universitet; []

    Sammanfattning : The Earth harbors around 300 000 plant species. The rich and complex environment provided by plants is considered a key factor for the extraordinary diversity of the terrestrial fauna by, for example, providing food and shelter. LÄS MER

  3. 3. Ecological and evolutionary assembly processes and metacommunity structure

    Författare :Mikael Pontarp; Evolutionär ekologi; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Community; metacommunity; phylogenetic signal; ecology; evolution; assembly process; marine bacteria; habitat filtering; competition; mathematical modeling; simulation; eco-evolutionary;

    Sammanfattning : This thesis aims to elucidate the link between abiotic and biotic effects and biogeographical contingencies, eco-evolutionary assembly processes, and community structure in a spatially explicit metacommunity framework. To this end, we used structure analysis of naturally sampled and experimentally manipulated marine bacterial communities and mathematical eco-evolutionary modeling and simulations of metacommunity assembly. 4. 4. Spatial and temporal ecology of oak-associated fungal communities

    Författare :Maria Faticov; Ayco Tack; Peter Hambäck; Paula Baptista; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; abiotic and biotic forces; climate warming; community ecology; foliar fungal community; host genotype; plant microbiome; powdery mildew; seasonal dynamics; warming-by-genotype interaction; Quercus robur; soil fungal community; spatial patterns; ekologi och evolution; Ecology and Evolution;

    Sammanfattning : Plants host a large diversity of microorganisms, which includes fungi, bacteria and archaea. Among these, fungi are highly diverse, and known to play a vital role in plant health and in regulation of the essential ecosystem functions. LÄS MER

  5. 5. Investigations into the evolution of biological networks

    Författare :Sara Light; Arne Elofsson; David Ussery; Stockholms universitet; []
    Nyckelord :NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; evolution; scale-free network; metabolism; protein-protein interactions; protein hubs; Theoretical chemistry; Teoretisk kemi;

    Sammanfattning : Individual proteins, and small collections of proteins, have been extensively studied for at least two hundred years. Today, more than 350 genomes have been completely sequenced and the proteomes of these genomes have been at least partially mapped. The inventory of protein coding genes is the first step toward understanding the cellular machinery. LÄS MER
