    Sammanfattning : Aim: The overall aim of the thesis was to examine some aspects of conversation partners (CP) of people with communication disorder caused by stroke-induced aphasia or Parkinson’s disease (PwCD). Central questions were (i) can conversation partners learn to adapt their communicative behaviour in conversation to the specific needs of the persons with communication impairment and (ii) are there any associations between characteristics of the participants in conversation and the ability to be a supportive communication partner? Factors that might influence the quantitative measurement of communicative behaviour were also examined. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : Word-finding difficulties, or anomia, are a common symptom in various conditions affecting the brain, such as stroke, multiple sclerosis (MS) or Parkinson’s disease (PD). The aim of this thesis is twofold: (i) to increase our knowledge about the similarities and dissimilarities between the word-finding difficulties associated with different kinds of neurological conditions, and (ii) to evaluate treatment effects of anomia treatment using a method called semantic feature analysis (SFA).   5. 25. Proximal processes of children with profound multiple disabilities

    Sammanfattning : In this thesis four empirical studies dealt with children with profound multiple disabilities and their parents with regard to: (a) how parents perceived interaction with their children (b) how observed child/parent interaction was linked to behavior style of the children as perceived by the parents (c) how parents of children with profound multiple disabilities perceived child/parent interaction and behavior style of their children in comparison to parents to children without disabilities matched for communicative ability and age respectively, and, (d) how social networks and family accommodations were linked to child/parent interaction and child behavior style over time for these families according to parental appraisals. The results in study I showed that child/parent interaction occurred through out the day and constituted of mutual experience and joy. LÄS MER
