21. A scattering study of concentrated lens protein solutions and mixtures - Towards understanding the molecular origin of presbyopia
Sammanfattning : Healthy eye lenses are transparent and flexible, able to adapt shape in order to focus on far away and close-by objects. With age, however, this flexibility is lost, leading to a condition known as presbyopia. This vision disorder where close-by objects appear blurred commonly starts around the age of 40. LÄS MER
22. Nonlinear Dust Particle Dynamics and Collective Effects in Complex Plasmas
Sammanfattning : Theoretical studies of dusty plasmas have been performed by focusing attention principally on collective phenomena and on grain motion. This thesis consists of a collection of seven published papers that explore both the collective behavior of a complex plasma system as well as the dynamics of grains in plasmas. LÄS MER
23. Resonant switching and vortex dynamics in spin-flop bi-layers
Sammanfattning : This thesis is a study of the static and dynamic behavior of the magne-tization in spin-flop bi-layers, which consist of two soft ferromagnetic layerscoupled by dipolar forces through a thin nonmagnetic spacer. The focus ofthe work is three fold: collective spin dynamics in the anti-parallel groundstate; resonant switching in the presence of thermal agitation; and static anddynamic behavior of the system in the vortex-pair state, with a particularemphasis on the interlayer core-core interaction. 24. Complex patterns : from physical to social interactions
Sammanfattning : Interactions are what gives us the knowledge of the world around us. Interactions on all levels may fundamentally be seen as an exchange of information and a possible response of the same. Whether it is an electron in an electrical field or a handsome dude in a bar responding to a flirtation---interactions make things happen. LÄS MER
25. Collective properties of magnetic mesospins
Sammanfattning : Mesoscopic spin systems consist of an ensemble of lithographically patterned nanomagnetic elements - mesospins. The interactions between the mesospins, can be designed at will by altering their lateral arrangement, enabling the study of collective magnetic order in a wide range of systems. LÄS MER
