  1. 16. Gut microbiota, its modifications and the gut-brain axis

    Författare :Julia Rode; Robert Jan Brummer; Julia König; Mirjana Rajilic-Stojanovic; Örebro universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; gut microbiota; gut-brain axis; faecal microbiota transfer; probiotics; butyratFunctional magnetic resonance imaging; mental health; collagenous colitis;

    Sammanfattning : The human intestinal microbiota has a major impact on host physiology and might play an important role in several diseases. Therapeutic interventions aimed at modifying the gut microbiota might exert their effects locally as well as systemically, for example via the gut-brain axis, a bidirectional communication system. 2. 17. Microscopic colitis : epidemiology, death and associated disorders

    Författare :David Bergman; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : Microscopic colitis (MC) is the most recently recognized inflammatory condition of the large intestine. MC is an umbrella term for two disease entities, namely lymphocytic colitis (LC) and collagenous colitis (CC). LÄS MER

  3. 18. Nitric oxide : a surrogate marker of bowel inflammation

    Författare :Claudia I Reinders; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The gas nitric oxide (NO) is a pluripotent biological messenger involved in numerous physiological and pathological processes in the gastrointestinal (GI) tract. In the intestinal mucosa NO is synthesized from the amino acid L-arginine via a reaction catalyzed by NO synthase (NOS). LÄS MER

  4. 19. Gastrointestinal Disorders in Women

    Författare :Rita Gustafsson; Gastroenterologi; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Sammanfattning : Abstract: This doctoral thesis has sought to clarify the influence of gender in gastrointestinal (GI) disorders. Women with different hormone profiles were investigated, their colonic microbiota was characterized, and the impact of lifestyle and risk factors for GI disease were examined. LÄS MER

  5. 20. Genetic variation of tight junction structures in intestinal inflammation

    Författare :Elisabeth Norén; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Nyckelord :;

    Sammanfattning : The epithelial barrier facing the external environment in the gastrointestinal (GI) tract is comprised of several components, including the tight junction (TJ) structures observed for the first time in 1963. TJ structures, which are multiprotein complexes composed of transmembrane proteins and a diverse spectrum of intracellular components, create a primary barrier to diffusion of ions, solutes, and water and they concomitantly prevent permeation of pro-inflammatory factors, such as pathogens, toxins, and antigens.
