11. Guided Wave Propagation in Composite Structures; Application to ice detection on wind turbine blades
Sammanfattning : Guided waves are an efficient non-destructive tool in inspection and fault detection of elongated structures. Due to the special characteristics of composite materials, study of guided wave propagation in them has been an interest. LÄS MER
12. The importance of waves in space plasmas : Examples from the auroral region and the magnetopause
Sammanfattning : This thesis discusses the reasons for space exploration and space science. Space plasma physics is identified as an essential building block to understand the space environment and it is argued that observation and analysis of space plasma waves is an important approach.Space plasma waves are the main actors in many important processes. 13. Development of a Sideband Separating SIS Mixer Technology for MM-Wavelengths
Sammanfattning : This thesis presents work done in developing instrumentation for mm-wave radio astronomy. The main subject of the thesis is a sideband separating (2SB) receiver for 85-115 GHz based on a quadrature scheme with two identical SIS mixer junctions pumped by a LO applied with 90° phase difference. 14. Photo-induced Structural Dynamics in Transition Metal Dichalcogenides
Sammanfattning : Ultrafast electron microscope (UEM), a combination of transmission electron microscopy and laser-based pump-probe techniques, facilitates ultrafast imaging, diffraction, and electron-spectroscopy with high spatial resolution. The unique advantages of UEM enable local ultrafast dynamic studies in materials, nano-system, and biology. LÄS MER
15. Development and Application of Non-linear Mid-infrared Laser Spectroscopy for Combustion Diagnostics
Sammanfattning : The work reported in this thesis involved the development and application of two novel infrared non-linear laser techniques, namely mid-infrared polarization spectroscopy (IRPS) and mid-infrared degenerate four-wave mixing (IR-DFWM) to combustion diagnostics. These two techniques meet the needs of species concentration detection in combustion environments, especially for those species lacking accessible electronic (one-photon) transitions in the ultraviolet (UV) or visible spectral region.
