  1. 6. Laser Doppler Flowmetry and Imaging: Methodological Studies

    Författare :Siv Bornmyr; Malmö Institutionen för kliniska vetenskaper; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Clinical physics; digital photography.; cold intolerance; sympathetic nervous system; flow cessation external pressure; skin temperature; thermography; skin blood flow; laser doppler imaging; Laser doppler flowmetry; radiology; tomography; medical instrumentation; Klinisk fysiologi; radiologi; tomografi; medicinsk instrumentering;

    Sammanfattning : Laser Doppler flowmetry (LDF) and laser Doppler imaging (LDI) are modern methods for non-invasive and continuous assessment of skin blood flow. The techniques are based on the phenomenon that monochromatic light transilluminating a perfused tissue is spectrally broadened owing to scattering by moving blood cells. LÄS MER

  3. 8. Hand-arm vibration syndrome; Consequences for hand function and quality of life

    Författare :Ragnhild Cederlund; Hållbar vardag och hälsa i ett livsperspektiv; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; ortopedi; traumatologi; traumatology; Kirurgi; Surgery; orthopaedics; questionnaires; tests; assessments; outcomes; ill-health; well-being; activities of daily living ADL ; quality of life; hand function; hand symptoms; Vibration exposure; Hand-arm vibration syndrome HAVS ;

    Sammanfattning : Workers exposed to hand-held vibrating machines may risk developing a hand-arm vibration syndrome (HAVS), a condition which can cause chronic impairment and disability. The aims of this thesis were 1) to obtain deeper insight and further knowledge of HAVS and the consequences for hand function, and aspects of quality of life (QoL); 2) to investigate the usefulness of clinical assessments in diagnosing HAVS; 3) to evaluate a treatment method for patients with severe cold intolerance. 4. 9. Carpal Tunnel Syndrome and Diabetes. Surgical outcome and nerve pathology

    Författare :Niels Thomsen; Malmö Institutionen för kliniska vetenskaper; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; intraepidermal nerve fibre; health-related quality of life; Carpal tunnel syndrome; diabetes mellitus; myelinated nerve fibre; nerve biopsy; nerve conduction study; skin biopsy.;

    Sammanfattning : Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) is the most common entrapment neuropathy in the upper extremity. Diabetes mellitus increases the risk of developing CTS from an estimated prevalence of 2-4% in the general population to 15-30% in diabetics. LÄS MER

  5. 10. Stem cells for nerve repair and prevention of muscle atrophy

    Författare :Dominique Schaakxs; Paul Kingham; Mikael Wiberg; Daniel Kalbermatten; Christine Radtke; Umeå universitet; []
    Nyckelord :MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; adipose stem cells; biomaterial; muscle; nerve injury; neuromuscular junction; regeneration; cell research; cellforskning; Medical Cell Biology; medicinsk cellbiologi;

    Sammanfattning :   Peripheral nerve injury (PNI) is common and despite modern microsurgical techniques of repair, functional restoration is always incomplete. This results in impaired sensation and reduced motor function alongside pain and cold intolerance. LÄS MER
