    Sammanfattning : This thesis, “Die Wiedergabe der Wirklichkeit” (“The Reported Reality”), explores from a contrastive perspective what linguistic strategies serious German and Swedish newspapers use in different text genres as they report from reality. Two German – die Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung and die Süddeutsche Zeitung – and two Swedish newspapers – Dagens Nyheter and Svenska Dagbladet – are studied. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : This study examines the use of discourse-organising nouns (DONs), such as fact, issue, and problem, in Swedish advanced students’ academic writing in second language (L2) English, and in what ways texts produced by the L2 students resemble or differ from those produced by advanced native-speaker (L1) students and from expert writing in this respect. The study uses corpus linguistic methodology and is set within the frameworks of Halliday’s systemic-functional linguistics and Granger’s Contrastive Interlanguage Analysis. LÄS MER

    Sammanfattning : The role of borders as dividers between states and markers of territorial sovereignty is central to modern statehood. Whereas the voluntary opening of a state border could therefore appear puzzling, this thesis argues that state sovereignty can be manifested either when states allow borders to become more open or more closed.     Sammanfattning : How is the accuracy of chromosomal pairing and segregation processes in dividing meiotic cells assured? This is an important question as premature or erratic segregation of chromosomes can give rise to aneuploidy, which is the leading genetic cause of pregnancy loss in humans.
